JESUS told us this again from Deuteronomy 4:29, Deuteronomy 6:5. We know by the WORD of GOD, unless man, a preacher, or a teacher is not loving like this and being filled with the Spirit of GOD, then anything else is vain religion. JESUS said we must be born again. Unless the WORD one is hearing or reading himself is not by the Spirit, and with the power thereof as told us in Hebrews 4:12, then growth will probably be stagnant. We must have ears to hear, eyes to see, and discernment. Stay seeking brothers. |

I asked the question, 'Do you call yourself a 'Christian'?' 'what do you look like, do you look like Christ?' I want to be like Him. Naturally when I look in a mirror I only see a reflection. James 4:8 “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” He is Holy, we are to be holy like Him. Those who hope in Christ seek His face and keep their hands clean. 'Christ in you, the hope of glory' 2 Corinthians 7:1 “Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” 1 Peter 1:22 “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart...” For all believers who follow the Lord Jesus Christ: 1 John 1:7, 9 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. ... If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Hebrews 9:14 “...how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” Titus 2:14 Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” Acts 15:9 God was “purifying their hearts by faith” (referring to Gentile believers). 1 Timothy 5:22 “...keep yourself pure.” James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion includes keeping “oneself unstained from the world.” Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him. Romans 8: 28-30 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. You become what you follow, He (The Father) will conform you to the Image of His Son, what is that Image? If your a Christian you should know, That Image is being made less sinless, and get sin out of your life. And before anyone starts their slander, I am not sinless perfection, however I am not the man I used to before before I came to Christ. No longer an alcoholic, and living a lifestyle of sin. 1 Peter 4: 1-3 4 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: I can't post the whole NT but read what Peter said. |

We know the will of GOD is that we be conformed to the image of the LORD JESUS. Romans 8:29, I Corinthians 15:45-58. II Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the LORD is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the LORD, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the LORD. How does a soul receive eyes to see and ears to hear and a new heart to discern? |

John 1:12-13 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. ~ John the Lord's Apostle The real you, is born from above. Now, everything you see with your natural eyes (in the natural) is passing away. We walk by faith, not by sight. >He makes all things new!< A new creation. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. He is the Life. Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, ... ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle 1 John 4:13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. ~ John the Lord's Apostle John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” ~ Jesus 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle Remember the Word of God. He is Faithful and True. 1 Peter 1:23 ... for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. Jesus is the Seed. You really do have an impressive way of posting so much and never addressing the topic at hand. I never said anything about a Pope. You eschew the idea of a centrally-organized organized Church while continuing to justify it by quoting the writings preserved by such a Church. The Corinthians and Romans didn't dismiss Paul as not worthy of teaching them, they saw him as an authority, so much an authority they preserved his letter as scripture. And that's saying a lot for the Corinthians. They would have had local Pastors. They did not tell him "the Holy Spirit tells us what we need to know, who do you think you are?" This basic topic has really nothing to do with any claims as to where said Church can be found today. |

Originally Posted By 3xpert: I did not say anything, Jesus talked about how eating things do not enter the heart, Those things can’t defile you. John 6 is not about things that defile you. Quite the opposite. The flesh Christ gives us to eat leads to eternal life. When you eat his flesh and blood, He remains in you. (John 6:54-56) Strange hermeneutics to link the two different thoughts in two different books and chapters together because of a cursory reference to eating. |

How does one find a connection to God without following an organized religion? 1 Timothy 2:3-5 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ... ~ Paul the Lord's Apostle John 10:27-30 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” ~ Jesus >Jesus is who He says He is. Listen to Him.The risen Jesus identifies Himself as the living One --- alive forever.< Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” The 'Christian' life is Christ Himself living in the believer by faith, not external performance. Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” He is the unchanging Person. John 14:6 “Jesus *said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’” Access to God is through the Person of Jesus, not through a system of ceremonies. The New Testament repeatedly teaches that Old Testament ceremonial practices were shadows pointing to Christ; the reality is the Person Himself. Colossians 2:16-17 “Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.” Festivals, dietary rules, and ceremonial observances are shadows; the substance (the body/reality) is Christ Himself. Hebrews 10:1 “For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.” Repeated ceremonial sacrifices could not perfect people; they pointed beyond themselves. John 4:23-24 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” True worship is not tied to a particular place, mountain, or set of external rites, but is spiritual and truthful --- centered on the reality of God. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Salvation and relationship with God come as a gift received by faith, not as the result of religious works or ceremonies. Romans 3:28 “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.” Justification is by faith, apart from the works of the Law (which included its ceremonial aspects). I believe Jesus is a living person risen, present, and relational, not defined by the performance of rituals or ceremonies. Scripture presents the Old Testament ceremonies as shadows that pointed to Him; once He came and finished His work, the substance is Christ Himself. He calls us to worship the Father in spirit and truth, and He lives in those who believe. Rituals can have meaning as expressions of faith, but they are not who Jesus is. He is the living Lord we know by faith.” You, all who believe can know the risen Christ personally through faith and the Word. 'Christ in you the hope of glory' I called on the name of the Lord and He came and rescued me. Jesus is LORD. |

Okay, it does not say that the Jewish leaders were there, However other Scriptures showed that they followed Jesus everywhere, But, Jesus was talking to Jews, who were taught from the OT and actually brought the animals to the temple to be Sacrificed. And also ate the Passover lamb. Jesus was what the Passover lamb and animal Sacrifices of the OT pointed to. Jesus gave His all on the Cross for the sin's of man. You don't eat the Holy Spirit, It's recieved by Belief and acceptance in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross. |

Edit: A false teaching about God and His Word will lead you away from God. Ask Adam and Eve. How would you even know if Pastor Bob is leading you astray with novel interpretations? I imagine he's using his canon of scripture and his brain (not really, he's just using his denomination's traditions, but let's just play along) to come to theological position and then defend it. Pastor Jim from across town is using the same canon of scripture to come to a completely different theological postition. You can't say "whoever is following scripture." They both are insomuch as they're extracting an interpretation from it. So is your own preference the real arbiter in the matter? "I like what Pastor Bob is saying, not Pastor Jim." "I think it's more in line with what scripture really means." You have no mechanism to even know what a 'false teaching' is. |

Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. 3. That is not what this chapter is about; the Old Testament typology in this case is the children of Israel and manna. There are really two options here, given that your position on the Lord's Supper didn't even exist until the Protestant Reformation: 1. The Holy Spirit, who Jesus promised would lead the Church into all truth, divinely guided its unanimous consensus that John 6 contains clear and obvious sacramental instruction. 2. Jesus is a liar. You don't really have any other way about this. You condemn yourself here. |
