$150 at auction...uh plus another 100 bucks in gas and a day to drive up and get it. Attached File School auction powematic model 90. Heavy piece of cast iron. 12" swing plus a gap in bed up by headstock. Reeves drive goes 550 to 2100rpm. It's already got a single phase motor. But I might put a vfd on it for further speed control. Came with tool post/rest and tailstock Will take a few more pics when I get it in the shop tomorrow |

Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Old Rockwell was OK but it really was too fast for bowls. 900rpm was minimum. I turned an 11" walnut bowl at that fron start to finish and it was kinda hairy The PM will go down to 550rpm as-is. Still a little fast . Might add vfd later. Ways have a little surface rust but nothing deep. Will clean up good. I'm glad I had the tractor and forks. The PM is BEEFY. Definitely going to add casters to it. |

Bad news is, I'll need some new tooling. Or an adapter. I've got a nice nova chuck but it's 1"-8 this whereas the PM ispindle is 1-1/2" -8 I think. Thank God for pallet forks Attached File Attached File |

Fired her up. She runs. Speed control works. Off switch doesn't seem to do anything. "Off" setting on the speed control dial opens a switch tho. Contact on Off button might be stuck or something. Not sure but I think it's 1972 vintage Attached File |

Just going to carry on with the Nova chuck for now. 12" is about the max you can chuck up in it but I can't turn anything over 12 inches anyways unless I get some riser blocks. Attached File Attached File Tricky copying a spindle free hand. Got it pretty close to the first one. I wish I had a cross slide for the ferrule. A couple of thousandths makes a big difference. |

| Need to figure out a better way to epoxy cracks. Maybe some thicker epoxy, like some kind of gel. So it doesn't run as bad. |

Attached File Old Reeves drive was pretty nasty. Attached File Cleaned it up and put a light film of grease on the cam. Attached File Cleaned up both sets of pulley halves/shafts to make sure movable half slides freely. Next will probably look for a motor upgrade. This 1 hp thermal trips a little too readily for my liking. Will probably just go ahead and do 3ph and vfd conversion at that time. If anyone has a line on a 2hp, 1750ish rpm 3ph motor, let me know please. Preferably frame 56 |
