Finally getting some combat and real action after getting the hematic grenades. The first BIG BT that Higgs summons was intense, and now that I’m across the lake I can duke it out with more MULEs if I want. Nice! -Helldivers2 continues to be epic in every way. I regularly get my ass handed to me while I learn to use the proper stratagems and guns and how to use complimenting loadouts, etc. -I’ve now played Payday3 enough to realize the AI is trash in the solo “beta” mode. I’ve also learned that Starbreeze is a sinking studio and has minimal plans to support the game. I still really struggle with the concept of live service games, buying a game towards the end of its service life means sometimes you get a game that you’ll see little enjoyment out of if the studio is stupid and drops support without fixing significant bugs. I bought PD3 purely to play with one friend, so I’ll soldier through it for the sake of the friendship. The game honestly has a TON of potential, but it sounds like Starbreeze is too dumb to realize that and fix it properly. I’m basically done with Dead by Daylight. I get on for the rare occasion where someone in our group wants to or the really rare case it’s the only game everyone in the group has, but outside of that? Far too toxic these days. When they killed stealth by nerfing the Distortion perk into the ground, I knew the end was near for me lol. |

Final Fantasy dudes - what's your feelings on the best game(s) in the series and/or which one did you enjoy the most? I bought the 1-6 collection on Steam and I've been messing around with that. I played most of them from 8 up to like half of 15. I've actually never played 7, but I have the remake on Steam as well. It gets a lot of hate but I really enjoyed 8. It wasn't until years later that I really learned and understood how the junction system could both completely break the game and disincentivize fighting enemies at the same time. But the story, setting, cinematic, etc., I really liked all of that. |

I hate the enemy level system that disincentivizes leveling. The card game is very good. -9 is waaaaaaaaaaaaay overrated. Too many people played it first and are blinded by nostalgia. I didn't like it much when it came out, and I played through it again a couple years ago, and my opinion didn't change. -10 is great. Possibly my 2nd favorite, definitely top 3. Some of the side content is brutally difficult, though. -Didn't play 10-2 -12 had a good story but was let down by a mediocre battle system and one of the worst main characters in the series. The Ivalice connection (to Tactics and Vagrant Story) was built up to be this big thing, but was kind of a let down. -13 is pretty rough. It's the only FF I quit before finishing (I went back a few years ago and beat it). Story is okay, but the battle system sucks. The world is a series of narrow corridors (and feels like it). I didn't care about most of the characters. -Couldn't get 13-2 to run on my PC. 13-3 was fun, but I never finished it - I didn't really like the game's time mechanic. -15 was a polarizing game, but it's one of my top 3. Your enjoyment is seemingly directly proportional to your enjoyment of the extra videos and movies (that you have to watch first), and your connection with the characters. Supposedly the Royal Edition fixed many of the gameplay and some story problems, but I beat the original and never played Royal. -16 was a miss to me. The action-focused gameplay was solid, but the game dragged too long. Additionally, I absolutely hated the ending of the game - it completely ruined my experience. The voice acting is top notch, and 2nd only to the Remake Trilogy. I separate out the Remake Trilogy and don't really judge them against the other games. While Remake and Rebirth are objectively great games, they do depend on knowledge of the original to get the most out of them. -7 Remake is great. -7 Rebirth is one that I once considered a contender for greatest video game of all time. It improves on Remake in almost every possible way. That said, I greatly disliked some of the choices the devs made with the story near the end of the game. It didn't really provide any answers raised from Remake, but added plenty more, seemingly just for the sake of making things more convoluted. This is not the "Empire Strikes Back" part 2 that it could (and should) have been. Still waiting eagerly for Part 3. -FF7 Crisis Core Reunion (which is basically a remaster of the PSP original) is solid. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but the side content drags and gets very difficult, which forces you to use the same broken combos ad nauseum to clear. -Final Fantasy Tactics is a treasure, needs to be remade (current iOS/phone version doesn't count), and get a new modern game in the same style. The Tactics Advance games were okay for kids, but didn't really do anything for me. |

8 is really funny in that the junctioning system was over my head when I was a kid. This is pre-Google of course, I had a strategy guide for that game but still didn't really understand it or Triple Triad all that much. I brute forced my way through that game with raw levels and GFs, pretty sure I was level 90+ by the time I finished it across all characters. Then I revisited it years later with a YouTube guide and Triple Triad, card mod and junctioning basically makes the game a one button affair. Everything dies in one swing, you can get Lionheart before the end of disc one, it's just absolutely ridiculous. I think I was in the 20s or 30s level-wise when I finished it after using that guide and understanding how junctioning and cards work. |

Switch 2 info is out. GD Thread Link. The only announced game so far that would make me upgrade from the old Switch is the new Zelda themed Dynasty Warriors game. Update for starting Elden Ring: holy crap I didn't realize how many systems this game has for customization and character builds. I thought it would be more like AC6 where I could just slap on armor/weapons to adjust my character's power. Primary and secondary stats, armor, weapons, talismans, potions, skills, spells, buffs/debuffs, classes, tears, runes, crafting, etc. Nuts! |

I did strength only no magic or weapon skills on my first playthrough. Just dual welding big swords and jump attacking. It was painful. But I learned how to fight.

I loved Black Flag. The last Assassins Creed game I liked at all. I was really hoping they were going to just make a single player sequel to that. But Ubisoft thought they could use the ship combat for the live service Skull and Bones game. We know how that turned out. Resynced is great. I played RE9 and the Outer Worlds 2 earlier this year. I really liked RE9. I really liked the two different games it is made of. I wish they were two different games. I can only assume Capcom had a few canceled projects that they mashed together to make what we got. It's my game of the year right now but I hope it doesn't stay that way. Outer Worlds 2 was great. Once I got back to it and just committed to the RPG elements and stopped caring about the dialogue at all. I skipped through all of the dialogue and just chose whatever skill checks I had. I did guns and speech mostly. I played Pragmata and it was OK. I tried Crimson Desert. That sucked. I just finished up Demon Soul's remake and Silent Hill 2 remake on PS5. Demon's Souls was fun. I streamed a lot of it on a Playstation Portal and I am very impressed with that little machine. I did a full strength no magic build. I am currently playing Halo Campaign Evolved and a new playthrough of Elden Ring on the Portal. The streaming is chugging with those. I think I am going to just play through RE2 remake, 3, and maybe 4 while I wait for Onimusha. Looking forward to Onimusha. Thought that was a totally dead franchise. I am going to play that instead of Dawnwalker for now. But I'm pretty sure I'll also get to Dawnwalker. I'm not really in the mood for a big story driven RPG right now. I'm not really feeling in the mood for GTA 6 either but I'll buy it and get through the single player story. Maybe. I'm really loving survival horror right now. Kicking around the idea of playing Dead Space remake again. After that I'll probably get Control Resonant. |

With its final update this past June, I've revisited Destiny 2 and have had a mostly good time. That game really is an abusive relationship. It's like dating a hair dresser named Tiffany. She keyed my truck and smashed all the windows, but the make up sex afterwards was amazing. |

I've gone old school and started 're-learning' Advanced Squad Leader. I have the rulebook plus multiple modules representing the Germans/Russians, Americans (including Paratroopers and US Marines), British, Allied Minors, Partisans, Japanese, Italians and Chinese. I'd put them away for years. Now that I'm retired, I've decided to dust them off and play again. I'm remembering now that once you figure out the basic rules, it's not too hard. I'm also remember how fun it can be. Just a lot to remember, because it covers everything. I'm hoping my son will be up for some games in the future.
