Years ago I had a dog that would chew it's way out of chain link kennel. At an independent pet supply store I found a couple of toys made from used firehose sheathing that was flattened and sewn. It took years for that pup to finally chew into those things. Now I'm back to having a young GSD (?) we adopted off the street and she's a chewer. Can't seem to find toys made of this any longer. ETA: one was a hose folded over a couple times making a flat hexagon, making it a good frisbee type toy that she could gnaw on. Anyone know a source? Also, if anyone wants to guess on the breed? About 40 lbs, not chipped, 6-8 months old was a local.vet techs guess.

We have a 5 month old rescue German beagle now, terminator should be his name. Search for kevlar chew toys. We have good luck with some chew toys from Petsmart [maybe firehose?] flat duck, chicken. We just got a Nerf "dog flyer" that is made of some type of very dense but pliable plastic, we'll see... here is an upcycled firehose throwing toy firehose throwing toy |

Don't sleep on the Nylabones either. We have two destroyer of things in our house and Nylabone are the only brand they have never been able to destroy, ever. I initially found one they dug up in the yard from previous owner's before us. After a month or so, I noticed little to no damage. 6 months later, more of the same. They eventually get bored with them. I looked into the Nylabones and the newer versions have a scent/flaver built in, all the way through, so a few times a year, we'll pick up a few new additions. They gnaw the crap out of them, but never destroy one. Last summer I hit a fairly large one, with our ZTR, I guess it had been hiding in the grass. It made a god awful racket and two hunks flew out. Ruger flew off the back porch to retrieve his now 2 piece bone, gave me the stink eye and commenced to chewing on it. Unless they somehow cheap out and screw the Nylabone up, I'm forever a customer. |
