He has been struggling with some serious health issues the last few years. his wife just posted this...

Late yesterday afternoon, surrounded by family singing one of his favorite hymns, Richard went to be with the Lord. To know him was to love him. I have loved him for 42 years -- 5 as good friends, 6 as we were dating and engaged, and 31 as the best husband and, later, father in the world -- and I will always love him. We are heartbroken and devastated, but we're comforted to know that He is healed and with our Lord and Savior.
