HIPERFIRE reduced the size of the HIPERCOMP 556 recoil compensator for 5.56 NATO and .223 REMINGTON ammunition by giving it the same external envelope as the MIL Birdcage flash hider. Best of all, it now features the lowest felt recoil performance on any compensator it could test. HIPERFIRE releases that data today in the form of a video viewable on the Home page at www.hiperfire.com or HIPERFIRE's Youtube channel. HIPERFIRE personnel discusses what makes a good comp compared to a great comp and what HIPERFIRE did differently. The goal was to maximize the propellant gas exhaust effects to push the compensator and connected rifle away from the shooter. The search for this optimal design did not entail hardware design iterations of trial and error but rather employed Fluent computational fluid dynamics software from ANSYS to iterate the designs faster at lower developmental cost. | Yup, there is no number 2 comp. Comp 19 on the chart is the #2 ranked comp (think that was the number you were looking for). The numbers were randomly assigned to the test samples. These numbers don't indicate ranking. Ranking order, 1,2 ,3 ... begins at the bottom of the chart and goes up. |

Good question. A video will answer that question in two weeks. To be brief for now, converted kinetic energy of gun going off mounted to a frictionless sled to potential energy. Measured the h (units of inches), inserted into equation PE=mgh, while knowing mg to be the weight of the sled, rifle, and comp. KE=PE in units of in-lb. in-lb is the figure of merit. |

What is the amount of muzzle pressure redirected at the shooter? Compare to say a JP Enterprises Recoil Eliminator or an Armalite AR10 style "howitzer" looking brake. Maybe compare to a 14.5in 2ith that god awful AK74 brake Bushmaster used to sell. All 3 of the above examples will make shooter regret firing those guns without hearing protection. |
