The only thing that I remember from that movie, actually seen it in the theater when it came out, was what the nerdy guy with the puppet asked the hot girl. Goes something like this while they are in the tent and he's holding his ventriloquist puppet. Him: Would you like to see my Woodpecker? Hot girl: Will I get splinters? Him: No, i've been sanding.

Most likely 'Urbex' or Urban Exploring. I followed the hobby and did a limited amount of it in the 90's. Every one of us that has ever wondered what's behind that door?, what's down in that cave?, where does this hole go? or taken a peek 'behind the curtain' and said, "Hey, let's check it out" has unknowingly partaken in it. My buds and I- and probably every one on here- did it as kids back before it was even a thing. It's been a thing since the rise of digital photography. They have forums and messageboards that probably rival Arf.com in membership. Every age group from young teens to grown ass adults partake in the hobby and it's worldwide. They want to find cool underground structures and abandoned architecture, buildings, and passages and take artsy photos. They will explore storm drainage systems from one side of a city to another. These systems are huge, and very extensive in large urban areas. If they are a serious group, they could traverse literally miles of tunnels exploring. Its not unusual to go underground and stay for 6-10hrs and pop out of another manhole or opening miles away. They wear safety gear, monitor air quality, and consult weather reports so as not to be surprized by rainfall and the subsequent flooding of the storm drain systems. If they are Urbexer's they have no intentions of living there, or disturbing anything other than taking pictures. You can find their photo galleys online, and it's fascinating to see the labyrinth that's literally beneath our feet. Urbexers follow a rigid code and do not damage infrastructure or do grafitti. The serious groups operate under the motto 'Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints' and are typically very respectful of the areas they visit. Now, it also 'could' be a nefarius band of theives making preparations for the next 'Great Jewellery heist'. |

Anyone watch the video before commenting? They went in wearing waders and carrying bags. I saw no bags when they came out. Some were naked or at least shirtless on the sidewalk washing up after. The looking Hispanic or Asian in the grainy footage when shirtless. NYC looked down the manhole with a camera on a stick, nothing about sending actual workers in to inspect, WTF mayor. |

Difficult to believe what they could’ve been doing for 2 hours in an actual sewer. I assume it was likely a storm drain rather than sewer…. Most places I’ve lived have the same manholes on sewer and storm drains and both say “sewer”. A storm drain would give access to many places that are otherwise inaccessible. |
| Black bag op to tap into a telecom network? It is NYC where most of the nation's financial institutions have major installations. If there are any comms networks accessible with an hour walking of that entry point Telecom needs to get their techs down there to inspect. |
