According to what I’m hearing the Government is going to release all pre-1986 full autos that were originally transferred on form 5’s back onto the transferable market for resale.

Big if true.

I imagine there wouldn't be much if any drop in prices.

Trump admin is just trying to catch up with the Biden admin, which released several hundred thousand full autos to the civilian market.  In Afghanistan.

I question how many .gov agencies kept the pre-86 machine guns.  They could have gotten new ones at any point.

You're on the end of a game of telephone.

I'm unsure whether the original info was about the recent reclassification of certain presamples as transferrables, or about CMP M14's that will be sold as semi-autos, but it's almost certainly one of those two.

These are likely beat to hell, but may have some value to collectors and military history buffs. The real value is that they could be used to swell NFRTR registrations of transferable machine guns to facilitate "common use" challenges to both 922(o) and NFA regulation of machine guns before a new (and potentially anti-gun) administration takes office in January 2029. This would be the logical next step in 2A litigation after the Viramontes/Grant decision is released in June 2027.

There are still police agencies with such things in their armories.  Perhaps thousands of firearms that qualify.

I think an agency a few years back (and at my age a few years can turn out to be decades….). That were able to sell a few Tommy’s they had.

Im guessing ac556 mini14, S&W 76, and Tommy guns mostly

I think you will find a surprising number of M2 Carbine, BAR, M16 A1 and M14s.

Law Enforcement liked the BAR.

Without a doubt there will be a few things like m60s and various foreign guns.

Years ago when the StG58 kits were coming in there were complete StG58 rifles available to PDs at a lower cost than the kits... they were like $170 or something.

@Bama-Shooter

I didn't know that L1A1s were ever manufactured as full auto.  I thought only FALs and L2A1/C2A1s were.  Were they some sort of aftermarket modification or were they L2A1s?

Looking at the topic, I have some thoughts. Def like the coolness and the putting them on the market... Won't argue with that. However... outside of investment, why would somebody spend $50k on a HK MP5 trasferable over a regularly available $3k version with an FRT?

Some states dont allow FRT's but allow registered machine guns.

Some people believe FRT's can be banned anytime especially when dems are back in power.

You are correct. They arrived semi.

The LIA1 receivers were cut for the full auto sear. Reason why these were only available to LEA's

Had to put in the auto sear and replace the selector lever. Full auto.

Fun fact, mine arrived titled in my name since I bought it on a letterhead. I should have kept it.

Weren’t those pre-samples? (That have been made transferable in the last couple of years)

Or were they imported as LE-only Title I rifles?

I have 3 FA.  After a few times the "excitement" wears off.  Really.  Just get an FRT.

FA prices are beyond stupid now.

But, Yeah, maybe the commies will make FRTs illegal, so -

Our podunk sheriffs office has like 20 F/A M14's in the weapons locker. I have done some comms work for them and also run the local range they use for training and qualifications. They recently upgraded to AR's so maybe I can convince the Sheriff to transfer one over to me?

If they’re like most agencies, those M14, M16, and M16A1 rifles (or just lowers) that you’ve seen are from the LESO/1033 Program and still owned by the DLA.

In my state, agencies can get them for $100 per rifle, which is an administrative fee charged by the State of Louisiana (but the feds maintain ownership).

Yeah I was just joking, they got them from some program way back in the day and have to return them to the gov now that they dont need them anymore.

There are places in foreign countries that have piles of stuff like that which was provided by the US.

Years ago Russia wanted to return 50,000 Thompsons that were new in crates from WWII but the US refused.

Same reason someone buys a Ferrari instead of a Mustang, because they can.

At this point there are primarily three classes (no pun intended) of transferable MG owners:
1: Those that bought early before the prices got crazy.
2. Owners of “cheap” MGs like MACs.
3. Those with “fuck you” money.

A sheriff's office in my area has a Thompson that was used in a shootout against Dillinger. If that goes to auction it will be very interesting to see what it brings after what happened with Bonnie and Clyde's shotgun.
