Got my Ancestry results (Page 1 of 2)

I'm disappointed that there isn't a larger pool of close genetic matches. The closest blood relative is a "half aunt". Everyone else is a second or third cousin. I've messaged three potential relatives with questions about my birth father's identity but none of them have logged in recently so they may have walked away from the app. Ancestry seems to only want to match my wallet with their bank.  Funny note. I'm so white copier paper is jealous of me. Attached File Has anyone here found previously unknown half siblings or a parent or anyone else very closely related? |

I use Ancestry, 23andMe, GEDmatch, and then I just tie it all together to find a match. Let me know if you would like some help. |

My wife helped my cousin discover her real dad. Caused a bit of family drama, but my cousin was hugely relieved. My wife is skilled in helping people figure out family tree mysteries. There are a surprising number out there. I am still struggling to understand how I didn't find any unknown siblings. I did discover some family members in the PNW well before statehood.

My father found a son of his uncle that nobody knew about, not even the uncle it seems. My father matched with a female cousin and he contacted her and she told my father that her father did not know about is real dad. Her father was adopted as a infant. All this time the guy thought he was Spanish because he was raised with Spanish people. Anyway we sent her pictures of my fathers uncle and the cousins father was the spitting image of his real father. Turns out he was the uncles kid and he was mostly German, with some Russian Jewish among other things. The uncle had passed away the year before from old age, before finding out about his kid. My father sort of stays in touch with the female cousin on Facebook. The son of my fathers uncle owns a big construction company and the daughter has a huge house in Mass, married some big money dude a has a few kids. Where the poor mostly unknown to them relatives. lol |

Yeah, I have a half sister and she is black. My mom gave her up for adoption before she married my dad and about ten years before I was born. The family never spoke of it again and she had a YUGE family. I have learned through all this that Boomers are really damn good at keeping secrets. I bet 50 people knew this and no one thought to tell me. Even after my mom was long since passed on. It's pretty crazy to me. Anyway OP your more diverse than me, I got some Dutch, Irish, and English in me. |

I grew up identifying as "German", but based on DNA, I'm over 75% British Isles. Both sides of my family claim Native American ancestry. My DNA shows zilch, but both parents show 1% Bantu peoples, which I assume is DNA garbage error. Odd that they both have it, though. There is dark skin/hair/eyes in my maternal line and we have pictures of my g-g-grandfather and he is not a white boy. Could be India/Mediterranean descent. |

Lean on environmental traits rather than biological. |

I have paperwork showing I am German going back 1500 years. Ancestry points to the DNA being Scandinavian. North German, close enough. My wife looked at my results and said "Look, you have DNA matches in England, maybe you aren't all German." Took a second for her to process why Scandinavian DNA shows up close to the coast in England.

I've never done any of those ancestry tests, but we do know that our ancestors came from England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany and Switzerland........with some Cherokee thrown in for good measure I might try one of those someday |

Or maybe not, my wife and I came from about the only two families in Wright County that weren't related. Two of my dad's first cousins were in a doctor's office in Springfield, seated behind a man they thought was my dad. He didn't respond to calling his name, so they walked over to confirm. Turns out he has the same surname, was from McMinn County Tennessee where we migrated from, and they needed only a few minutes to connect the families as both had genealogies. I was stunned at the next reunion, he looked like my dad more than his brothers. |

there are all kinds of surprises in family trees. you would be amazed at the age discrepencies in marriages through time. you may or may not be mazed at how young some got married and had kids. i manage my sisters account now and a person popped up as a niece to her. no idea who's offspring it is but pretty sure mine or one of my brothers. |

But if you did your dna and wanted to see relatives and a kid you didn’t know existed participated too, you would now know. if you were gave up at birth and then adopted it can be very easy to hook up with biological family members. |

I know my heritage very well on my fathers side, my GF did a many year long search back to the 1500's. My mothers mother also knew theirs as well as they were Irish and had a clan name or three in there. My mothers father was German, so I would expect a mismash there. I would like to do one just to see what it says, but I did my best job of turning Virginia beach chicks into a painters radio. I am kind of scared about that part. |
