So woot had it for $50 off and it came with a pack in of Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest that plays a lot like Super Mario. I work third and when my youngest gets home she's waking me up to play Atari together, it's awesome! Amazon had a bunch of new production games half off so we also got Berserk deluxe 2600+, asteroids deluxe 7800+, and bounty bob strikes back 7800+. At game exchange last weekend we found pacman 2600, pole position 2 7800, food fight 7800, and crossbow 2600. We've been having a lot of fun with it, I'd like to find Mrs pacman, pacman jr, crystal castles, pitfall, and digdug. I think it's pretty neat they make brand new Atari games again. |
| Back in the early '80s, I had a classmate who got a new (at the time) Atari 5200. I remember being really impressed with how much better the graphics were over the 2600. Obviously, it had far more powerful hardware than the 2600 did. Galaxian looked just like the arcade version. I didn't know there was a 7800 until a few years ago. Was it also a big leap in tech over the 5200? The NES showed up a few years later and took the home video game market by storm, relegating Atari to the status of an also-ran in the market. |

I really gotta get my OG systems hooked back up. Got a couple 2600's, a couple 5200's and a 7800. The 5200 was quite a step up from the 2600, but the controllers were known to fail. Another Xerox field engineer had one (friend of the family) and he built an interface box with a 10 key pad and a port for a standard 9 pin joystick when his failed. I think he used Wico joysticks. |

That's an odd way to re-release this thing considering how all the other old system re-releases have gone. I have the games I mentioned above, trying to see if I can justify the system for those and Pole Position II. |

There's new joysticks for it made by 3rd parties that play a lot better than the originals, can't think of the brand off-hand (when I had a 7800 to repair for someone). You can also mod it with composite (yellow/white/red) so you don't have to use the coaxial cable. My memories of Atari are of my first handheld I received one Christmas instead of a Gameboy (actually wanted the Lynx because I saw the Warbirds ad).  Atari Lynx Longplay [035] Warbirds |
