My lower back never really "hurts" but it's always stiff. Ive been a dentist since 2009 and I think that is the main source of stiffness from having to bend over at times in ways that a person isn't meant to regularly. Like during a surgical extraction that is giving me hell. When the sweat starts dripping down my back (usually during a stressful procedure) posture sometimes goes out the window to get the job done. Anyways while I don't have bad back problems it makes me nervous enough to limit how much load i put on my spine. I don't deadlift anymore I just stick to rdls. I do belt squats instead of barbell etc Right now I am wanting to focus on biceps growth. I do tons of rows but I know from experience if I go very heavy on rows I end up with biceps tendinitis. I can go heavy with curls within reason but rows forget about it. If do rows and fail at much less than 8 reps theirs a chance I'm going to have biceps tendinitis in at least one arm. I feel better than I ever have since I started lifting but it sucks having to work around old people problems. Just killing time at a Dr. appointment waiting in the room. |

Doc I’m 66 and really should have nagging back issues from a career of doing electrical. Days hunched over some work. My back doesn’t bug me. I’m not sure if the inversion thing saved me, but I’m on my 3rd table. I keep them outside and they don’t last forever out there. Don’t even do it often. |

Change it up more. Cycle weights, reps, angles, exercises, unilateral work etc more often. Focus on movement vs muscle. Training to failure isn't necessary, nor particularly beneficial over the long run weighed against setbacks, nagging soreness and outright injuries. Pretending to be a spring chicken in no way makes you one, just an old chicken in denial. You're not training for Selection. You have to train to get older, better. ![]() |

We had one many moons ago. |

A few months ago I got a cheap pullup bar from amazon and started doing dead hangs for 1 minute, three times a day. I have grown to like them a lot. Do searches on 'dead hang' and 'active dead hang' to see if it interests you. I like this article. ETA: This is the pullup bar that I got. The price fluctuates but I think I paid about $25. One cool feature is that the mounting hardware is optional. I did not use the mounting hardware, just positioned it at the top of an interior doorway. I have been using it every day for months and door trim has supported it without issue. FWIW, I weigh 170 lbs. |

My problem is still thinking I can do what I did when I was younger. Attached File |

I get stuck in that half bent over position a lot too at work. Sleepy glutes and tight hips will kill your lower back in that case. Romanian deadlifts and deep high bar squats (sit right in the hole for a second each rep) help a lot. |
