Is -3² read as -(3²) or (-3)² ie. -3 x -3 or is it - (3x3)? |

Well the idea is agnostic to the numbers, but yea, otherwise you can explain it with the general rule that -x = (-1) * (x), so with PEMDAS you solve the exponent before the multiplication. |
