Can someone explain the state of the ASL board games? I had Squad Leader from Avalon Hill back in the 80's and I recall many years ago there was VASL that I never tried, but how can one get an actual board game today? It seems that Avalon Hill went out of business and enthusiasts restarted it under MMP (Multi-Man Publishing). ASL Starter Kits are all sold out but one can pre-order #1 through #4. When will those orders ship? What is the difference between the SK abbreviated rules and the "full" rules? What are the expansion packs and numbered scenarios? Update: Found my original 1980's Squad Leader 4th Edition game in my parent's basement. Now I don't need to buy an expensive used one. @TAP

They do reprints of the core modules fairly regularly, but because there is so much you probably want to buy whatever is available if you think you'll want it later. How long from pre-order to fulfillment depends on how many pre-orders and when the last reprint was from what I've seen. ASLSK is most of the full game with the chrome stripped away. I haven't played either in over a decade, but I don't remember missing much when I tried SK. I'll dog out my expansions and see what they add. |
