When a person is a (real) victim, forgiveness takes the power away from the perpetrator and gives it back to the victim. More than giving the perpetrator a pass, it restores a sense of control to the victim. Some wrongs deserve justice; others could use forgiveness. Forgiveness is people-centered, justice is government-centered. |

One on forgiveness caught my interest, then I read the comments. It was posted on the 25th anniversary of her sister's death. "I forgive so-and-so for murdering my baby sister" I couldn't figure out why she'd ever say that. Even considering the quote that she posted. You may have shed some light on that for me. Maybe it's easier to forgive someone spending his life in prison than someone who's walking free while the victim is still dead? |
