The Daily Mail reported Sunday that an 83-year-old Christian grandmother, Brigitte Stegemann, was killed under Canada’s physician-assisted suicide program, called Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), on July 10. Kranendonk said she wishes she would have applied for a legal injunction to stop the MAiD from occurring, but also said she was not aware she had the option. She is appealing to the Chief Coroner’s Office in Ontario, as well as the Patient Ombudsman and Belleville Police, to investigate if what happened was legal. According to the BBC, Canada’s MAID law, which legalized euthanasia in 2016, is responsible for one in every 20 deaths in Canada. |

| I heard Erick Erickson talking about this on the radio today. He said that more people die via euthanasia in Canada than do due to gun violence in the US. Surprising if true but there is a financial incentive for Canada to send the aged off rather than cover their health care during the advanced years. |

... its an ASSISTED DYING program. NOT "assisted living" the whole point of it is to DIE. That the government who is denying your health care is also the ones saving money by killing you isnt relevent, and if it is over your wishes that is also irrelevant, that the government isn't spending a potentially long term significant amount of money on a non producer IS what the issue is... From the government's perspective it saves them a ton of money (an 83 year old in a nursing home might be costing 50k a year for 5 years) vs a single expense of 5k (being generous) assuming lethal dose of Morphine/Valium via a sterile needle given by a nurse, while in a hospital bed; . The government saves 50k a year for 5 years of granny's decline, and she isn't producing anything more at that point, AND has assets that will be inherited which creates a taxable event. (Canada doesn't "inherit" assets they are "sold" from the parent to the kids at "fair market rate" the kid pays nothing but deceased parent pays "income" on the gains. and this happens BEFORE the asset transfers, so your parents leave you a fair market value 1 million dollar house on the beach you grew up in(Canadian dollars so all numbers are multiplied by .75 to get USD). Your parents now OWE 33% federal Canadian tax on everything over 250k (200k USD, and stepped up tax brackets just like us but MUCH lower amounts, top tax bracket is 250K Canadian, which is like 190K US) PLUS providence taxes (which can be up to 19.5% on everything over 200k (150K USD) in so that million dollar house you grew up in and your parents stuff is all in is valued at fair market rate and taxed to their estate that is then taxed before it is passed to you to own. So if your parents didn't have 525K(400k USD) to cover their sudden death in a car wreck then your childhood house is sold for "fair market rate" and you get the difference between their tax bill and your in inheritance. (in this case 525K Canadian). I can actually see the gears turning in politicians mind... "So through the murd *Ahem* unwilling Assisted Suicide* of Granny, we can save 245K (over 5 years), AND make 525k in taxes on her estate.... I don't care about YOUR granny so ...  "

The program should be halted purely for the racism aspect alone, not to mention the many other grievous flaws. Last I checked, it was 97% white. My friend that works in healthcare in rural Ontario says that if you're anything other than white, you'll get the max treatment available. MAID is only offered if there's nothing that can be done. If you're white, you get offered it before any kind of expensive treatment. |
