[ARCHIVED THREAD] - FRT's, have they ran their course? (Page 1 of 5)

| I have watched with casual enthusiasm, the FRT posts and discussions here for almost a year now and it seems that things have cooled off drastically in the last couple months. So, does that mean that everybody that wanted one has one? |
I think they have cooled in part because of the chilling effect of RB lawsuits on the industry. Also, there has been little advancement on the .22lr front. People want a reliable 3 position 22lr FRT for a ubiquitous platform like the AR or 10/22. Folks got their FRTs, got them running, shot up a bunch of ammo and that's that. Only .22lr approaches an ammo price that would enable frequent mag dumps for most people. Even 9mm is too much for most of us to just rip through cases of ammo that we have to pay for ourselves. |
Quoted: Honestly, I'm on the fence on FRTs. Yeah for freedom, but the novelty (at least for me) wore off very quickly after running a couple of mags through my BIL's 300 BO pistol. I live in a state where they are illegal, and have property in a state where they are more of a grey area but no sellers will ship there. |
i think the only people who knows of them are hard core gun owners i bet the yearly deer hunters that shoots a gun once a year , doesn't have a clue. when they are sold in a rifle at Bass pro etc .. then they will be main stream . for myself we bought a half dozen of them just so we have them . |
I was excited. Let anyone try … for reasons. Then my stash was gone Replacing ammo is expensive It’s nice very nice But it’s a pay to play thing and I played And I paid. So now it’s a nice thing to know it’s there It is a literal definition of turning money into noise |

If somebody, ANYBODY, would market an FRT for a 10-22 Id be like that Homer Simpson cartoon saying "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" |

That's actually how real machine guns are too. They're not really anything special. They shoot more rounds, use more ammo, get hotter, and cost more to shoot over time. That's about it. The hollywood stereotype of the machine gun being some crazy force multiplier is fake. It mostly just wastes ammo. The truth is, from a public safety/preventing mass shootings/murdering people standpoint, semi automatic is more effective than full auto. When the US military sends its best people into a building to kill badguys in the most effective way possible, those guys generally switch their guns to semi auto. The idea of full auto being more dangerous was a massive disinformation campaign in the 80's and 90's, and bears no grounding in reality. If every mass shooter had utilized full auto over semi auto, the death tolls would have decreased overall. Full auto should just be legal and unrestricted. It's not really a big deal. |
I don't think they've run their course yet. If the RB lawsuits were to stop I suspect there would be more small companies willing to innovate with new products. Also the 2 position models lose their appeal to me after you get a few mag dumps out of your system. Waiting for some more 3 positions for other types of guns and most importantly a reliable out of the box one for AR22. |
I want one, to install in one lower out of the several I own. I don't think I'd be willing to pay that much per trigger to have one in every AR and AK I own. that said, people with RPK's, LMG-configured AR's (where's that H&R 605 thread) and, presumably eventually, FN 249S's should just consider them part of the purchase price. If I were the sort of chap with OOW BAR money, and a OOW BAR FRT were available, I would in a heartbeat. |
They're tons of fun. Kinda spendy to feed, just like machineguns. Pretty easy to keep on target inside of 20 yards. Some of mine in action. ![]() Partisan Disruptor. Reliable. Accurate. Legal #tactical |
| Another question: for those of you that have 1, 2, 12, etc..... how many of your friends, neighbors, relatives, etc.... have you let play with them or told about them? If your answer is none, then you are part of the problem! The "in common usage" part is what we need to be focusing on, not squirreling them away like some creature in a LOT movie and saying "my precious!" |

My club allows pretty much anything. Last time I was there another guy also had a super safety. |

Quoted: OEM's haven't even adopted them yet. Most gun owners don't know anything about them.. Even pistol braces are still not widely known about aside from the crowd that lives and breathes this stuff. FRT's have a long way to go still.. Once OEM start incorporating them you will see widespread outrage cooked up by leftist politicians and their criminal lapdog media mouthpieces. |
I'm seeing more innovation coming out. You got Steyr AUG and P90 FRT's coming on the market now. Saw a three position AK FRT. More AR FRT's of course. Mp5 FRT's. I'm sure everything will have an FRT for it soon enough. Closest thing to legal full-auto we can get at the moment. But yeah ammo prices are high, so the idea of blasting through it isn't as appealing anymore. And waiting to see if the ATF decides to once again go after FRT owners. Really wish they'd just get rid of the NFA, it's so pointless now. |
The RB lawsuits have kinda choked the industry. Many States, like FLORIDA, have banned them. Expect more States to follow suit. The next Dem controlled Congress and Whitehouse will probably ban them in the future. Honestly, I own registered machineguns and I have owned FRTs (not currently). The thrill of wasting ammunition and low accuracy wears off pretty quickly. Don’t get me wrong, no firearms should be “banned”. |
Quoted: I have one and took it out for one range session to make sure it functioned then pulled it out of the gun and put it tin the parts box. It's expensive to play with and will wear barrels out quicker than I care to. If the SHTF then I'll put it back in. If the SHTF, I will want an effective, suppressed firearm that can put aimed shots on target, not a spray and pray. Nobody is coming to re-supply or rescue me. Your requirements may differ. |
Nope I dont utilize them every range trip though. ![]() Marine birthday assault drills ![]() M16a4 with the AZ regulator 3 position ![]() IAR drills |
I got a Disruptor and put it in a 11.5 SBR with a Sandman S. It scratches the full auto/select fire itch for sure. Is it practical? Probably not. However I am looking forward to bringing it to my club’s MG shoot and see if anyone can tell the difference without taking the gun apart

Belt feds and IARs like the rpk and BAR and now the HK iar have been the heavy lifters of the infantry. Just like mortars, and artillery, if we add combined arms. |

Quoted: I need to build a heavy barrel RPK style upper and one day a belt fed upper. Getting a FRT is like becoming an adult and moving out on your own, it's fun but it isn't cheap. Yes you do. Im actually surprised you dont already. Attached File Attached File |
