| And the nintendo "ecosystem" I havent played nintendo since SNES.. But I am familiar with Playstation plus, xbox pass etc... Im looking for a switch to basically play online with another couple. I also want to be able to access every mario game. Also to note. Wont really be playing this hand held. It will be on the TV. I initially just wanted to go the emulator route. But the wife has got in on the action now and wants the switch. I am not opposed to snagging one of these off marketplace.. I just need to know what I am doing and the going prices on used lol. |

Sounds like the standard Nintendo Switch would do the job unless you're playing newer games which might require the Switch 2. You can play most of the old school SMB games using the Nintendo online service through the NES/SNES app. If you want Nintendo 64 era you'll need to pony up for the more expensive plan. |

If you go legit, the way nintendo wants you to, you pay a monthly/yearly subscription. They let you play certain NES/SNES/N64 games in their own emulator. It does not include all the games you used to play as a kid. And its a neverending cost. If you want to be the cheapskate route, most smart TVs run android. You can install emulators directly to them and play roms. You can pair switch controllers ($20 from gamestop on sale) directly to the TV. Most TVs have about 4GB of storage and can emulate up to about PS1 level of games without much issues. You will need to plug in a USB stick to store most of your games, and go through the manual setup process for each one. When I did it, I installed emulators from the store onto my phone, then used adb to pull the apk files and install them to the TV. This is simply because the developers had not updated the emulators in the store to show compatibility with the smart TV interface. No clue if thats still the case. |

I'd buy new anyways. The joycons (the controllers that attach to it) are cheaply made and go bad. I've had to replace the joystick in one of my kid's and a button in the other one. its a crapshoot buying a used one. Maybe you get it home and an hour into it, you notice the joystick doesn't act right. Or if you're buying used, lowball it and figure in the cost of replacing the joycons soonish. |
