Ever since i read of the Chinese doing, what was reported to be, a successful "ground to space" entanglement experiment, an idea hit me.  I read that this involves observing and influencing two separate particles at distance. Supposedly, one particle is influenced to change state and it's paired particle reacts. Apparently, distance between particles does not factor in. On could be here, the other could be in the Centauri system 4 light years away.

I got to thinking this could be expanded upon. Instead of a single pair, make it two. Add an ablitity to observe/infuence the pairs from either end and you have instantaneous binary communications. Expand to 20k pairs and you have clear audio.

Seeing how this would be about as point to point as coms get, i figure it would also be unjammable. I figure that may be why the Chicoms have jumped on this with both feet.

If this is possible, just think about having  instant coms, but being still limited to sub-light physical travel...

In science class in HS, the teach said that if we could send a ship, just shy of light speed, to Proxima Centauri, the round trip would take the ship less than ten years (their experienced time), but when they landed back on Earth more than 80 Earth years will have passed. (Einsteiny crap happens)  You could not exploit this type of com as the departing spacecraft approaches max speed. As they accelerate their audio would slow and ours would speed up to gibberish. It would work again at tge destination, after deceleration.

Yeah, i had a couple of beers and I'm bored.

This sound kosher to GD science nerds? Maybe some with real sheep skins?

My understanding is that to get entangled particles they need to start out close together.  That would make the comms no faster than light speed.

Once they are entangled they can be anywhere in the galaxy and collapse simultaneously.

No real details provided in the Chinese experiment article, only that one was on Earth, the other 90 miles up in space. They also said it worked at that distance. "Worked" is your guess or mine.

Once entangled, it is instantaneous...way faster than light.  Separating entangled partials by distance takes time, but the entanglement remains instant.

I'll  admit my scientific knowledge is bound to just a layman with an interest. I took note mainly wondering why the Chicoms would take the ball and run with it. They don't piss money away for no reason. Their reasons usually aren't for the good of mankind/caring/sharing.

That is what i understood. Scale down the space travel scenario to just our solar system. Instead of a message from a Mars station taking 15 minutes at light speed,  Major Tom and Ground Control could just shoot the shit about the world Cup finals. Also consider that relay sats would not be needed to relay around space masses.

Btw, the Chicoms plan on building on the opposite face of the moon. If they do that and don't employ relaying sats, this has got to be a thing.

Joking aside, we cannot observe the particle on our side without altering it and destroying whatever message was sent.

I suppose that someday an answer involve magnets or crystals will make a difference, but I doubt it.

Maybe go actually read about quantum computing supremacy, your understanding seems flawed.
I'm not sure how you'd ever actually separate and transport quantum particles, nor do I think we'll see advances in quantum computing that make it useful to real world tasks in and of itself anytime soon...

Unfortunately, though entangled qubits provide a pathway to perfect (read mathematically impossible to crack) encrypted communications, nothing in known physics would allow faster than light communications.

Nothing about your avatar should be allowed with that response!

Entagled particles are spooky because they can communicate instantly regardless of distance or time. At least thats the theory. So someone 3/4s way to alpha centauri with a particle matched to one on earth can communicate instantly. Again, thats the theory so far.

FTL communication is not possible with our current understanding of physics. Period, end of conversation. Maybe it will be at some point in the future, but entanglement does not permit it, either practically or theoretically.

Quantum entanglement isn't complicated or magical. When two particles interact in certain ways, they can be said to be "entangled" because one particles state can be solved for by knowing the state of the other particle and the interaction that took place.

It's basically quantum state algebra.

So let’s say you are watching a TV show. Now you know your buddy is watching the same show. You can sit and watch the whole episode seeing the same scenes, miles apart, knowing you both have the exact same thing on your screen.

Now, try to use that broadcast to send him a message without calling, texting, emailing...etc. you can’t.

Quantum entanglement is basically the same deal. You can know they are the same over any distance, but you can’t send a message with it.

Yep, we did a thread on this and I read the paper. With the archives offline, I can't link it but basically most of the claims didn't quite follow the results of the experiment. Yes they were able to create polarized pairs and hit a satellite with some of them, but the number they predicted correctly wasn't super high. And they only managed something like a few thousand pairs. The most impressive part was that they could hit a moving satellite with reasonable efficiency.
