I'm going to do a Nord Ranger first, strong on short sword and bow, medium on magic, just for healing and extra-sensory spells. After that it's a toss up between a Dunmer swordsman or an Orc tank.

I love mages/wizards, but in most games you either get a) a weak character with huge downtime due to mana needs, who crumbles like a wet paper bag if hit, and once every minute can unleash the same power as one good sword blow, or B) Hell fire and brimstone god mode character who lays waste to anything and everything with one spell while invisibly flying accross the landscape. Now don't get my wrong, I love me some obliteration, but it shortens my enjoyment of the game. I also don't like to be so weak that the angry plague rat outside the first town kills me 30 times. |

Damn, I don't think I can hold out for the first patch. I know it is going to suck at first like NV, but I still want to play it. I still haven't finished Oblivion yet, so maybe I should do that(damn those side quests).
I am usually a Breton that is mage/rogue. Seems to work out pretty well for my style of gameplay. Get the sneak bonus and start with weakness to magica and whatever spell I want(and hit them if I want). |

I will probably play a stealth type character. I like the idea of playing a ninja like class and like sniping with a bow. I also like the idea of playing a heavy plate wearing warrior type, and usually play them in fantasy RPGs (especially MMORPGs) but I just couldn't get into a class like that in Oblivion. I was always addicted to sneaking around and killing shit and sniping people with my bow.

Word to the wise: Avoid any Elder Scrolls forms/Skyrim forums.
I have been lurking in a few of them just because, but did not want any spoilers. People are posting MAJOR spoilers to the game, including how the main quest ends. I didn't see that, but I did see one thing that is a pretty big spoiler to the game. Wish I had not....the bastard put it in the thread title for all to see .

Same here, I have PC and 360 versions of Oblivion, I lost interest in both years ago, and then got side-tracked on a few other games. I just recently finished Dragon Age (and expansions), and Fable 3 so I can get ready for Skyrim.... I'm resisting DA2 but I may actually fire that up tonight.

The main quest is the last thing I do when playing Oblivion. The portals annoy me and ruin the landscape. |

Heads up, there are SPOILERS. So just a heads up, some people want to see what the game is like. From what I saw, I'm still not quite sold on the combat. Kill animations seem a bit...unrefined. The cinematics seem "almost there" but not quite. Just what I think, although the video do NO justice to the quality of the graphics even on the 360. |

(everyone has seen that) Through out parts of the game, my jaw dropped by the astounding visuals, scared shitless when enemies unexpectedly attacked from behind. This is easily the top contender for Game of The Year along with MW3. The myriads of perks, weapons, food, armor, etc is mind boggling. Archery peaked my interest more than anything else in the game as that's what I prefer. For those that are interested in the thief/assassin class like me, you are in for a surprise |
