So I just got a Denon AVR-1700H upgrade and the sound is pretty glorious in comparison to my old 5.1 Yamaha. Now that I can roll an Atmos setup I figure why not? Pic is my living room layout, speakers are Sony SS-CS5s and the matching SS-C center channel as well as a downward-firing wireless klipsch sub on the back wall behind the recliner to the left. Speakers are mounted in the upper corners of the room because that was really the only place they COULD be put. Ceiling is 8 ft high. TV is currently 55" but will be upgrading to a 75" in February. It'll stretch from the right edge of the recliner to the left edge of the rightmost couch cushion. Seating: white Doors: gold Speakers: red  Enough background info: where would be the best place to put the 2 Sony SS-C Atmos speakers? I figure I have a few options.. A: either end of the TV, reflecting upwards off ceiling and towards seating area B: ends of the TV on wall at ceiling height, firing forward C: laterally firing to the sides of the seating area. D: Above the seating area, firing directly downward (installation would suck but i have a whole mess of 250# toggler drywall anchors) |

That’s a really difficult layout- can you rotate the entire thing 90 degrees? And unless you’re doing L or R height the proper placement would be D. But you don’t have a ton of depth and I hope you have the ability to tune that system. You’re looking at a 5.2.1 system. Check out diagrams online. They would be forward and outside of your seating Personally I think that will result in much better coverage than doing the front height positions |

Can't rotate the room. There wouldn't be enough room to get to the back doors unless I gave up my recliner. That 5.1.2 setup on the dolby website is about what I was thinking with option D. As for balancing, i did the 8 position audyssey setup and boosted the sub output and honestly it sounds great. I really wasn't a fan of those Sony SS-Cs until I put them in the corners of the room. They sounded good with the Yamaha but the Denon really makes them come alive. |

I agree with staring with the auto room calibration built in to your receiver and seeing how it sounds. Run it a couple times in different configurations to see what is best. On a different note, viewing a 75” TV from 7’ might be pushing the boundaries of comfortable viewing distance. |
