We have a 16 year old chihuahua terrier mix who has cataracts in both eyes. They started getting real bad a couple months ago. She went to the vet and they put here on a series of 3 different drops. There was improvement, and then the vet put her on a steroid drop for a bit. She seemed to be pretty good for 3 weeks or so and now her eyes are really bothering her again, worse than they were before the drops. She is pawing at them and I don’t think she can see out of either eye. We have an appointment scheduled for early next week. Obviously I’ll listen to the vets advice but I’m unsure where to go from here. If they have to remove her eyes, I don’t know if we elect to do that considering her age, or choose to end her suffering. Just thinking out loud here. Ultimately, she is the wife’s dog, so I want her to make that decision. Has anybody gone through this? |

Yes, our 8 year old Bichon Frise had the same issue in both eyes, we had the surgery done, he lived 8 more years with great eyesight, very expensive (like $8k expensive) but worth every cent. He was a great dog! At 16 I don't think it would do surgery, will he even survive it at that age? Eyes before & after surgery Attached File Attached File |

| I have not but if the vet says she can survive the surgery get the eyes fixed. 16 is pretty old and if she doesn't survive the anesthesia at least you tried to give her back her eyesight. Removing the eyes will rock her little world. I would try for the surgery considering the alternatives. Little dogs can live up to 20 years or so. |
My own view is that left-wing positions largely come about from resentment, I agree with Nietzsche, a resentment about the surrounding social order. They have privileges, I don't. Or, I have them and I can't live up to them. Roger Scruton
