I've ended up buying quite a few traditional table top board wargames over the years with no one really interested in playing face to face anymore. I'm mostly messing with WWII through Cold War games. Right now I'm playing World at War 85 with the solo assistant. Getting ready to try some of the SCS series from MMP like Rostov 41. I've started looking ways to play online like VASSAL, Tabletop Simulator, etc. Anyone else in the same boat? |
| I used to play Third Reich a lot with my brother, and Risk quite a bit. Third Reich was quite a strategy game, I was always the German Army, and kicked his ass all over the board. Risk was fun, but just a war of dice and attrition. Good times! |

Heck ya third Reich is the Shit . We played as well . A couple years back I played solitaire . It was interesting but eventually as the German player I was very aggressive vs England and defeated her Just as the Russians could come in . I did end up winning . I think next I want to try a simpler game . I do have several . I think the airborne invasion of Crete / Malta . |

We played a lot of Battle tech also . A game we just called Melee but really was called , The Fantasy trip . DnD like but much simpler and thus faster moving . Steve Jackson wrote it. We had 3d miniatures and everything . We had a WW2 game we played w 72/ 76 scale models we just called miniatures . Accurate data cards for all WW2 AFV s . Including Infantry and arty . Great fun. Panzer leader also . I was actually in 2 different clubs . |

I've dusted off my old Advanced Squad Leader stuff and am brushing up on the rules. They're complex but not difficult. My son has said he'd like to learn to play so I'm hoping we can play some next time we visit. Right now I'm playing a scenario "The Taking of Takrouna". A force of New Zealanders is attacking uphill against a dug in force of Italians. The objective is a town on a hilltop on the north end of the board.

I have 3R, but haven't played it yet. We spent a ton of time playing Risk all night in high school when we couldn't find any girls to hang out with after parties.

I did get the ASLSK stuff and have been debating whether or not to sell my full ASL stuff. ASL is definitely a lifestyle game, my problem is i can't just focus on one system. |

We're in the same boat. I've convinced a couple buddies we need to break out some games, but that's on hiatus until some medical stuff gets sorted out. I sold off my old school AD&D stuff in high school, but bought reprints when some friends wanted to try it. Of course it fell through. I was hoping to teach them then let one of the other guys take over to let me play through all the old school modules. Those Goodman reprints are really cool. We also spent a ton of time playing T2K. That was rereleased too, but I still have my old stuff. I never got to play many of the old AH titles as a kid. I've bought a few of the classic, they don't seem to have nearly as high a barrier to entry as many of the newer titles. |

D&D campaigns are hosted there almost nightly, and I've since converted one of our spare bedrooms into a full-blown gaming room. I'm in two D&D campaigns now, one as DM and one as a player. I've been turning my old modules into 5E compatible versions, and have found most of my group never played them. And yep, the Goodman Games updates are solid. Great stuff! I have my original T2K but also bought the re-releases too to support the industry and hobby. Diplomacy, Tactics II, Dauntless, and Firepower were my main AH games back in the day but they've been harder to reignite a player base for. Diplomacy was huge in late high school and college, but sadly I can't get many of my local buddies interested- many of them have had bad experiences with gameplay actually souring friendships. Hard to imagine for a die-hard gamer, but alas. None of the videogame versions are worth playing, though maybe with AI that could change in the future. Attached File |

Make your own drinking rules, but a laser hit should always result in a shot. So should a partisan card (which should always be quaffed by the defender after shouting “Wolverines”). |

Big fan of the Fallout RPG, huh? No, I actually think their RPG is pretty weak. I've actually been working on a 5E version of it to play instead. I do like their tabletop wargame though, which is what all the minis are for. I'm a pretty big fallout fan in general, from back when it didn't even have a number after it. Attached File |
