I have a Alienware R14 AMD system, It was relativity cheap for a gaming system since i wanted a 3080 card and it came with it. I put 32GB of Kingston Renegade Ram in it at 3600MHZ and removed the two sticks of Kingston Fury 16gb it came with. It is at 3200mhz but the speeds I get from my 3600 is 3400mhz for some reason but I have stopped the whole OC thing. I think I could get the Fury sticks to 3400 without an issue but the big thing do I need more than 3200 if I am just doing Accounting, Gaming some and surfing the net? I just do not know if I need more than 3200 DDR4 ram. |

You are going back and forth with the ram capacity and the ram speeds in your post. But I think you are fine with both specs. I went to 64gb from 32gb and no real difference. And messing around with timing on memory I almost never notice any difference with a small bump. Plus memory is outrageous and will be for the next year or so.

I would say probably not. I have a 5900x / 6800xt (3080 equiv) with 64GB memory, because I wanted to see if any diff and I could upgrade another system to my old 32GB sticks. It's useful when I run Windows11 in a Docker container via Winboat, but I dont see the system going much over 21GB when just gaming. I dual boot Win11 / Linux (Kubuntu) and only use Windows when the Kid wants to play Fortnite. Unless you're doing VM work or editing large files like video/pictures, 32GB is the sweet spot. Edit to add: I'm not sure if you're more concerned about capacity (32 vs 64GB) or speed, but 3200 is perfectly ok for the AM4 platform. When you goto AM5, then plan for 6000. |

| I've built about 7 systems this year with 32 or 64gb of RAM, DDR 4 and 5. I haven't maxed out the RAM in the 32GB systems with normal usage and gaming. I had a few that I upgraded to 64GB and really saw no performance gain, even with the higher speed of the RAM. My machines tend to stick around 12GB of usage. I just fired up Cyberpunk 2077 and it went up to 18GB or RAM use. I am on Pop OS which is a Linux distribution so windows may look a little different for RAM usage at idle. |
