I recently bought a new TV which caused a bout of upgradeitus. I've been researching speakers and subs, setup tips and tricks, etc. Decided to purchase the Audysey editor app to give it a try prior to replacing components. I ran it yesterday and made the commonly recommended changes. Wow! What a difference. Instead of utilizing full frequency range EQ (default for Audysey), I set the EQ curtain at 1,000 hz. This is the frequency where my room modes calmed down. My speakers sound so much more open and "sparkly" now. I also changed the EQ curve for my subs to un-neuter them (Audysey flattens sub response). I still have some tweaking and experimenting to do, but I am already very pleased with the sound. The $20 cost of the app has saved me from spending thousands on new speakers and subs (although new subs may still be in my future)...

General consensus is the editor app is great. It's arguable whether the Audyssey MultEQ-X program is worth it, but I decided to try it a few years back and I'm glad I stepped up to it. I have a "non-standard" room and it has really enabled me to get my sound system corrected for my space. I use it with their specially calibrated microphone and have found the investment worthwhile for my setup. I know there's other programs out there, such as Dirac, that may be arguably better, but Audyssey MultEQ-X works very well for my set up. |
