Should trump take deal?

My opinion yes.    The war machine can fuck.off with their two weeks till Iran nukes us bs.    If Iran really wanted a nuke they would have had one hundreds of "2 weeks" ago.

Israel can defend itself.  Not our problem.  If we think they are developing a nuke later in violation of whatever deal then we can bomb their facilities again.

Trump got fooled into this war probably being told the Iranian people would revolt.  They didn't.  Time to leave.

The deal is a lie.

It's just theater to buy time for either Iranian infighting or economic pressure to break them.

An added bonus the deal talk keeps commodities traders from being as aggressive with oil prices.

I do not expect either side to play ball with the MoU, and I do not expect the blockade to be lifted in 30 days.

edit: seems to be some confusion on when the blockade is lifted. I've been seeing 30 days. Some sources imply (but not directly state) it would be immediate. We'll see I guess, once the actual document is released. If it's immediate, I'll be confused and pissed.

The forever war thing is a myth.  What are we supposed to do, watch ISIS take over multiple countries?

Iran was at 60%.  No one argues that.  It is a short hop to weapons.  You want them to have nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles?

Blockade is suppose to be lifted immediately. They are allowed to sell oil immediately with zero sanctions. US is going to give them $25 billion very quickly, which was frozen money in international banks, apparently a combination of cash and credit memos. So even if they do not comply, they will have sold oil, removed the blockade and have $25 billion as a minimum. Enough for them to rebuild their weapons and other infrastructure they may want. Historically the IRGC took around 90% of annual oil revenues to pay proxies for attacks, as well as to buy weapons, missiles and work on nuke program. It appears they will come out ahead of where they started, other than their navy and air force which historically they werent using to attack and harass people world wide anyways.

There is no realistic end game here if they say fuck it and take what they are given and dont cooperate. ITs clear Trump cant get a ground invasion going, so what to threaten with after they already have cash and time to bring in supplies, no wonder they were eager to sign.

Whether you want to give them cash as an incentive or not (their own money which was frozen and seized) wouldnt it be better to have it predicated on an actual deal being concluded rather than a 60 day written ceasefire? Very much putting the cart before the horse here I think

Last I checked the WTC was built in the US.

Like it or not the Muslims in the middle east and Iran are our problem too. We can't go back in time and unring that bell. I'm not saying war on Iran is the solution, or even helpful. But simply saying "If we leave them alone they will leave us alone" is hopelessly naive.

That is pants on headed retarded. Yes, we are the only nation to ever use nukes and we are the ones that allowed the world to know how devastating they are. We didn't use them in Korea or Vietnam. We haven't even used small battlefield nukes to take out underground bunkers that are otherwise unreachable. None of the nuclear powers, including North Korea, seriously want to use them. That's not to say they wouldn't if they felt it was needed, but they aren't out there vowing to exterminate another nation based on their "god." Iran can't say the same.

No, they CAN'T have nukes.

That old trope? Puh-lease.

Smaller countries don't want nukes to keep the US from attacking them. They want them for ego and for regional politics. Look at the minor players over history: Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Israel, South Africa, India, Pakistan. Which of those developed nukes because they feared the US? Or was it because of their more immediate neighbors?

Yes, the US is the only country to have used nuclear weapons against another country. To end a war that was already ongoing, that we didn't start. And that transformed geopolitics in ways that the people who ordered their use didn't foresee. Would they have done it if they knew what would happen in the future? No clue. But the idea that the US should wear some sort of international Scarlett letter because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is leftist claptrap.

As always, my opinion is that if we're going to start something, (or in this case respond to what they started decades ago), we should go in hard and finish it quickly. All these pauses and half measures give people time to get tired of it, and the other side to regroup. To paraphrase the Patton movie, we shouldn't pay for the same real estate twice.

This reminds of the Cuban missile crisis. As you may recall it was a standoff between the US and Russia, JFK didn't blink and the Russian's backed down, it was a very tense moment in US history. JFK was ready to go all in, there were no half measures or 'deals'. Politics and leaders sure have changed over the years.
An unconditional deal would've been much better

Sounds nice in theory, but in practice, leaving it alone means nothing gets done about it/them (Iranian theocratic regime). Iran developing nuclear weapons with delivery systems capable of hitting targets in their hemisphere would guarantee nuclear toothpaste goes out the bottle, because they aren't hardly bluffing about their intentions. They intend to destabilize the ME in order to, as they believe it, usher in the return of their messiah figure, the Mahdi.

But the other fact is that the US is only slightly more up to doing anything about the regime than Yurip, which isn't interesting in doing anything at all, if they even could, which they can't. So in the end, this deal is just going to be a way for both parties to save face within their respective cultures. Iranian IRGC gets billion$ & maintains its control; Trump declares "victory" (ie. "mission Accomplished very 2.0) & oil prices come down. Everybody wins. "Everybody" meaning the political players & mullahs, & the MIC (duh), because money & power.

Whatever.

Government is stupid, incompetent, & corrupt. Nothing (new) to see here, move along.

The elites and hawks made a shit-ton of money off this charade.  That's all that matters.

The White House can push back all it wants about "text of the deal".  The Iranians are not going to sign anything that doesn't benefit them.  They waited out the USA on a global stage; we look like retards.

I see where you are going, but the cases have some substantial differences. I don't believe the Soviets had actually installed missiles yet, and Cuba was really easy to blockade. And the terms were simple - Don't put missiles in Cuba. Iran is much more complex.

That being said, I agree that the start/stop, fuzzy goals, and rhetoric has not been as effective as a more direct approach would have been.

This is only 1 part of it. Oil is the other. Yes, oil. See also VZ. See, losing petrodollar status was a straight kick to the jewels, & every politician knows it. Having that status was a terrible crutch that enabled short term-minded greed which allowed US companies to chase cheap overseas labor while politicians sat in the pockets of executives & looked on. Because who needs domestic production capacity & export products when the world has to buy dollars in order to purchase oil? Stupid.

Well, now were scrambling to recover the control we lost by seizing via controlling key geographic oil shipping lanes, like the Straight of Hormuz, a strategy that has the potential to float the USD, at least for a while, though a capable nation will likely not take kind to the idea & strike at us, a la Japan back in 1941. China comes to mind. Because if Iran can be made to sell only on the international market, then the cuts off sweetheart deals between them, which will jack with the Chinese economy.

Of course, we could've avoided getting up in this mess if we'd been running a tight ship economy. This is what happens when a nation whores itself out for money & has to scramble to compensate for losing so much of itself.

Yep, it's embarrassing.
