IMHO the best zombie movie ever made.

This is the 'theatrical cut,' which is (again, imho) is the best version out there.  They've got longer/shorter "cuts" of the movie out there, some with inferior music cues.
To me, this is the best by a large margin.

Still remember watching "Siskel & Ebert" review it on their show when it came out: "If you can handle the gore, it is an incredibly good movie."

If you haven't seen it, here it is:

I agree. Truly a classic.

I saw the preview for the remake in the theater.

The second I saw the shopping mall I went full black girl. AAAAAWWWWWWW SSHHHIIIEEEETTTTTTTTT YEAHHHHH!!!!!!

of course I was disappointed , because I was comparing it to the original too much. But in time I grew to enjoy it as well

I'm a younger guy, and I think the original is better.

Enjoy: Dawn Of The Dead (1978) (Extra Long Version)

It has several cuts edited together. It's been up on youtube for 4 years so Im assuming it's Kosher?
I watched it the other month and was hooked on this edit.

Epic film, and score. Tom Savini was awesome as a renegade biker.

The remake was good, but I definitely prefer the original.

The way it plays with the audience emotions so easily.  And of course, it has the best line ever uttered in a horror movie:
"When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth."  So good, they used it in the remake - uttered by the same actor!

1968 version, Night of the Living Dead is the mother of all zombie movies. Watch it and compare.

What made dawn of the dead so special is it was centered around a long term survival strategy. That ultimately failed.

Night of the living dead was quite literally one night.

Both great movies. But very different

And personally I found the notld remake a better film.

Return of the living dead was awful in all the best ways. I loved it as a kid. I’ll never forget the punk chick showing snatch in the cemetery.

The 80’s weren’t all bad

I lived outside Pittsburgh and knew where all his movies were filmed.  Yes I've been to that mall.  Sadly, they removed the ice rink and the gun shop after the movie.  A new mall is just up the road.

Same here....love watching both.  "What the hell is it?"  "Looks like a shopping center, one of those big indoor malls."  A different time.

I loved Dawn of the Dead.  I don't remember the year the first time I saw it.  I had no idea of what it was about.  One of my favorite parts is the scene where the hunters are shooting them like they are varmints.

I have a friend/coworker that was an extra in that movie.  He was one of the bikers that come to the mall.

I saw the original pre-release at the movie theater at that mall. (Monroeville)
P.S.  played hockey on that ice a lifetime ago.

Dawn of the Dead 1978 was the best of all zombie movies!

Best quote of the movie is when the black cop picks up the Browning lever action (BLR ?) rifle and says "The only one that could miss with this is the son of a bitch that could afford it!"

Look closely at their AR-15s.  They're .22s.

With a post count of 1 and picking the clearly worst of the original 3 movies I can only assume you were an actor or extra in Day of the Dead....

Yeah I noticed that, apparently renting out blank firing M16s for movie use were pretty expensive at the time.

I still find it funny there was one zombie who didnt even want to attack people, he just wanted guns.

I was 12 when this was filmed.   My house was also 1/4 of a mile from the Monroeville Mall.  I remember seeing the helicopter flying around when they were filming.
Back then stores were closed in PA on Sunday by law so all of the outdoor shoots were done on Sundays.  I also remember driving by the mall with my dad on a Sunday when
the helicopter was sitting on the roof of the mall during filming.

I was a mall rat growing up. Some one mentioned the gun store at the mall.  There was no gun store at the Monroeville Mall. That was filmed elsewhere. There was an ice rink in the mall.  It became a food court in the late 80's.
