SO, Ive been unemployed for a year now. A few months back I got bored and needed an inexpensive hobby,so I started a world building project. About 75 pages of lore in, I decided to make some vignettes to flesh out the lore. So now, this has spawned a codex that functions as the lore bible and originally, a 160 page mini novel on some political stuff. I've since made that a coherent 60 page novella. SO anyways, I'm starting to publish things on substack. But, I am new as fuck to world building, writing and publishing. SO, help me out arfcom. Would anyone be interested in an alternate history, bio-horror, dieselpunk series of articles, or is my Autism showing? |

Not sure if this is related to what you're even talking about BUT I worked with a guy who wrote a book and self-published. There was some controversy about whether or not he had people do fake Amazon reviews but he did 6 books over 5 years with a 4.4 average on Amazon. In all honesty I think he actually made a lot of money with these books. He gave me a copy of the first book. I read about half and it was just not written/edited well. I felt it was more of a YA book but my 12-year-old who was a voracious reader also thought it was lacking. The concept of the story was pretty cool, though. Almost as if it could have been really good if there was a serious editor to reformulate the chapters and put the story into a better written work. The guy was kind of known as a creeper at work so that tainted everybody's subjective view of his work. But from an objective standard I always told people, "Even though I think his 1st book was kind of wack, he had the balls to go out and write one, and none of us including myself ever did the same". I want to write something and get it out there; not sure if I will ever actually do it. I say go write the thing and self-publish it and get it out there! |
