My previous thread about building a 16ft elevated stand got archived and I just finished the build, 90% finished. To do list: Finish Calking, install windows, carpet floor and desk, painting on stairs, 2 missing vertical boards on the hand rails, wire management, install some kind of roofing, cut down about 70 cedar trees. Looks good bud. Based off the terrain, I’m going to guess you’re close to either Menard or Bulverde. My only suggestion from building many wood blinds over the years is to add something over your door to keep the rain from rolling inside. It can be as simple as a piece of flashing nailed at a slight angle. Fun part is almost over. Now you’ve got to clear cedar

I guess I’m a little jealous. If I was closer I’d clean that DC power up for you lol. Elk move around too much out here, unless you have private land, we don’t use them. People do stand hunt and it’ll work sometimes. At least I find some. Not climbing them tho. Attached File |

The electrical still needs a lot of clean up. Spent Thanksgiving week getting the blind build on top of the legs, painting everything and finishing the stairs. Electrical was the last thing I worked on before running out of time and materials. I used a cheapish Marine battery from autozone connected to a 300 watt, 120 volt inverter. amazon link To keep it charged i used a 50 watt solar battery charger with a maintainer. amazon link I wired everything with Romex. I put a 20A breaker between the battery and the inverter. The inverter has an on off switch but I wanted a breaker for peace of mind i guess. amazon link I put in 3 duel 120 outlets that also have usb A and C charging ports. Kids are young and can't hold still in the blind without their iPads. Shit the couldn't hold still or stop coughing with their iPads over Thanksgiving. Link I ran out of wiring clips so more work to do there. I realize it looks like a hot mess, the shame. I'll get it sorted next weekend when i go up to cut cedar. As for area we're in Hunt, right outside Kerrville. The area was hit really hard by the flood but were high enough that we only suffered road damage. |

Looks like you used elevator brackets? Which ones did you use? I have a set of the Mofeez that are waiting to get used for an elevated blind/shack. The Amazon listing shows they for good for 2000#, but every other brand shows 1000#. Did you use 2x6 for the floor frame? Any thoughts about insulation? Thanks |

I do not understand this thing, at all. My questions should not be interpreted as criticism, I just don't understand. I could ask so many more but will just leave a few, if you don't mind. What is the small structure visible in the distance out the front window? Does it belong to you? That wiring needs work! Have you considered surface mount metal raceways? Is there any way to cover the windows? How do you keep the rain out? Without that, carpeting will get soaked. |

@PKT1106 Here are the Mofeez brackets I used. Says they are good for 2000 lbs. I also used 4x4 fence post anchors with rebar for the bottom of the legs. I drilled into the Rock around the blind to make holes for the rebar feed. The legs wont be going anywhere. And Yes, I framed the floor with 2x6s. The rest of the structure used 2x4s. @Trollslayer The building out the window it my 30 year old scaffolding deer blind that is falling apart and will be replaced by the new blind. My enclosed trailer is out there too that i used to hold my tools during the build. Wiring isn't done yet. I ran out of wire clips and other cable management items. I will get it sorted later this month when I go back up. I know its ugly right now but wanted the solar panel charging the battery. I have 5 DeerView duel hinged windows on order and they are water tight. They are running about 2 weeks behind due to hunting season rush. Carpet wont go in until the blind is water tight. Do you plan to have a roof that overhangs the edges of the structure? The overhang keeps a LOT of water off the exterior walls and reduces/prevents dripping into the interior. A simple shed roof would do it. Underlayments, edging and shingles and you will be water tight. Is the entry door water & wind tight? |

I started using a regular Buddy heater in both. It is too large for either unless the outside temp is about 29 or lower. It's a constant battle with on and off to keep it at a comfortable temp inside. I switched to this single burner stove:Carolina Cooker It has a lot better adjustability for a lower temperature. |

I got the blind finished this weekend and my son got his first deer and the first from the blind. I cleaned up the wiring, added more silicone to water tight everything, installed the last 2 windows, added carpet to the floor and desk, and added an IR spotlight to use an old digital NVG scope to hog hunt. A little strange for me being the first season in a long time where I knew I wouldn't shoot. |
