Interesting paper. Not sure I buy it though. Where Are All The Tourists From 3025? INTRODUCTION On 28 June 2009, Stephen Hawking held a party for time travellers [1–3]. Champagne, balloons, nibbles: this party had all the trappings of an era-defining party, hoping to entice time-travellers into making an appearance. However, nobody wasinvited to the event– in advance– and it was only publicly announced afterwards, with exact time and location details, in the hope that an invite would survive the centuries/millennia required to fall into the hands of a party-loving time-traveller. Despite all the effort put into throwing and publicizing this party, “no one came” [4]. Leaving Hawking to party alone. Hawking was not the first to try such an experiment [5], which is not too surprising as the experiment is both simple and intuitive: if time travel will ever be invented, we should expect our greatn-grandkids to come back for a visit and such a visit would prove that time travel is technically and meta physically possible. But this has never happened, at least as far as is known [6]. All experiments along the same lines as Hawking’s have failed to find time-travellers. These negative results are strange as– to my knowledge– there are no explicit bans on time travel in our current understanding of physics [7, 8] and, in fact, the Einstein field equations admit a solution, known as the G¨ odel metric, with closed-timelike-curves [9]. So if physics does not forbid it and, if the human population of the future is as large as seems reasonable to assume, it appears to be a problem that not one of the billions/trillions of future-humans has travelled back to our time and– intentionally or otherwise– made themselves known to us. This leaves us to wonder, can the lack of known tourists from the future be interpreted as proving time travel to be im possible? In this paper, I argue the contrary. Presenting a model where time travel is theoretically and technologically possi ble; the construction of time machines is physically, prac tically, logistically, financially, and politically possible; and nothing prevents those machines from travelling back to our time, but we do not see any travellers from the future. |

Something none of the eggheads take into account is the collapse of western civilization. The rest of the world seems quite comfortable residing, even wallowing, in abject poverty and oppression. The collapse of western civilization is one of Elon's driving concerns for a Mars colony. A propaganda push to force the space race billionaires to spend their money on welfare and homelessness has been going on for a while and is growing. They used the same tactics against the Apollo program and it worked, there's no reason to think the blathering idiots won't believe it now. |

John Darnell: The Early Hieroglyphic Inscriptions of the Elkab Desert Hinterland Lecture given at the Mounira Palace gardens, Ifao Cairo on May 7th 2025. Abstract: Although best know for the rock inscriptions and rock art of the Wadi Hilal, the wider desert hinterland of Elkab—from Sebaiya in the north to Gebel Waz in the south, and extending east through the Wadi Schagab and associated wadis—is home to a large collection of rock inscription sites, several first discovered by the Yale Elkab Desert Survey. At a number of these sites are early hieroglyphic inscriptions. Palaeographically the inscriptions parallel those of the labels and dipinti of the well-known Tomb U-j at Abydos. Seen in the light of the earlier Predynastic rock art of the Elkab region, the early hieroglyphic inscriptions reveal a replacement of earlier zoomorphic and nautical imagery—emphasizing animal representations of power alongside images of ritual power—with more direct manifestations of the truly literal authority of the nascent Protodynastic state. The Elkab early hieroglyphic inscriptions also provide an interesting comparative group for those at sites in the Western Desert hinterland of Naqada and Thebes (discovered by my earlier Yale Theban Desert Road Survey). Differences between the use of the early script between the northern and southern sites reveal a use of the script at the southern sites that is removed from iconographic augmentation, providing the reader with little if any visual clues to the meaning of the texts. John C. Darnell is Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Curator in Anthropology at the Yale Peabody Museum, a member of the Council for Archaeological Studies, and director of the Yale Elkab Desert Survey. His interests include ancient Egyptian religion, cryptography, the cursive scripts of Egypt, and the archaeological and epigraphic remains of ancient activity in the Eastern and Western Deserts of Egypt. He is an expert on Ancient Egyptian rock inscriptions and lapidary hieratic, and teaches image-assisted courses on Egyptian religion and religious architecture, surveys of Egyptian history (focusing on the mechanics of unity and disunity within the Nile Valley), as well as a wide range of courses in ancient texts, from those dealing with the underworld and cosmography to love poetry and foreign relations. |

Warfare was central to Nazi ideology; the strong had to crush the weak. To go to war, he needed weapons and an army, but Germany had neither. A far cry from the fake images of prosperity, years of adversity had worn the country down. It was a medium-size power like Iran or South Africa today. The Nazis launched themselves into an extraordinary operation of financial manipulation and managed to revive the economy by producing enormous quantities of weapons. That was the Nazi economic miracle of the 1935-1936 period: an overheated economy that needed a war to continue its mad race. In 1939, Hitler embarked on a war financed on credit, enormous credit using spoliation and upcoming appropriation as collateral. 46:53 Part 2: An Economy of Death The resounding German victories of 1940 hid a beleaguered economy. Everything was in short supply: petrol, weapons, raw materials, food, and foreign currencies. They organised wide-scale looting in the countries they invaded. The assassination of Jewish populations, the horrifying project central to National Socialism, remained a priority, but that had to be adjusted to take food and labour shortages into account. The Nazis managed to organise their deadly ideological obsessions around their need to produce weapons. The Nazis calculated, planned, and transformed human beings into objects they could exploit at will. Industrial production was adapted. Death became part of the equation. This strong alliance between the regime's worst elements and the weapons industry's engineers shaped a fearsome economic system that allowed the Nazi regime to go on fighting until the country's collapse. |
