| I am on a VA related Facebook group and someone posted about missing Deployments on their DD214. I'm retired AF with over 27 years. I have been on numerous deployments but none of them are showing on my DD214. That had me curious as typically when someone in the AF "Deploys" it's really a TDY for us especially for Air Crew types. For Marines/Army I suspect these are called deployments and not recognized as a TDY in many cases. That could be the reason for the differences. However I retired over 20 years ago and things could have changed. My DD214 shows all my awards for deployed locations where the award was appropriate. |

Probably guard/reserve. They get DD214s (or maybe the reserve equivalent) when they redeploy since they’re “retiring” from AD. |

Having served in the Reserve and the Guard a very long time, when you are activated for Federal Service at the end of the activation (regardless of length) you will recieve a DD214 (Which is why I have six or seven of them.) including one for 21 days in Panama (Just Cause era). As far as TDY periods with regard to the reserves I haven't ever seen TDY periods shown anywhere on the DD214 at least when i was in 1970-2012. That doesn't mean that the rules regarding stuff on the DD214 might have changed. One final note, when someone tells you that their DD214 is classified they are full of shit. The form will list all your awards but does not contain any information about how they were earned and is not classified. Recently I had a neighbors daughter contact me because her fiance (who was SF) was killed by a drunk and they kept telling her that all his awards weren't listed because they were classified, and I had to explain that they didn't know what they were talking about. When I saw his DD214 I didn't see anything particularly out of the norm considering his years of service and numbers of time and places deployed. The missions may be classified, and the details in the award certifcate may be classified, but the document will just list what the individual has be awarded. |
