Anyone build or own some cool shit? I do custom and restorations at work so I'll post what I'm doing in here every once in a whilr. If you got cool stuff or build em post it . Just finished this one. Ford fuckin ranger.

That’s a sweet bumpside! I’ve got my grandfather’s ‘59 F-100 I’m trying to get going, just about finished rebuilding a C4. Going to replace the old Y block with a roller 302. What should I look for in a restoration shop? I’m wanting to do all of the mechanical, lights, wiring, but not the paint and body. Also, how do I ask a restoration shop to show me a paint sample of a few different paint codes? |

The difference is going to be priming and blocking the whole vehicle then spraying and blocking the clear down and doing another 2.3 coats of clear and blocking that flat and buffing it to a mirror. A factory finish will be a few grand cheaper and will look great but not glass flat. Especially on a fiberglass body with wobbles takes a good blocking and nearly a gallon of primer to get he whole thing really straight If you want to save some time and money you can strip the car down to just what needs to be painted and do the assembly yourself after it's painted. Detrim everything and pull the bumpers and mirrors. What you shouldn't do I prep the car yourself trying to get a discount. Unless you know what you are doing you'll probably make things worse for the techs and if you do them to spray over your prep job it's probably going to look like shit. Our shop will flat out refuse to do that because the customer will blame us for the crappy job they did to get a cheap paint job Assuming no previous accidents to fix messed up repairs and you detrimmed the car yourself if you went with a normal color (three stage and candy colors cost more). You should be able to get a factory or better finish done for 10-15k with a lifetime warranty on the work. If you want it show car flawless and mirror flat perfect bodywork from end to end somewhere around 20k. If you want candy colors metal flake or three stage pearls and another 3-5k to that. They can't warranty candy or metal flake or crazy graphics most likely because there's way toouch clear to get that kind of.stuff flat. Cars like that need to be garage kept or clear will eventually delaminate. Simple.stuff like a racing stripe can be warrantied. Doesn't take too much clear to make that right. Extra body damage will add to cost and they should be able to explain the labor any extra cost If they won't warranty a normal color paint job don't get it done there. All quality paint lines warranty their work of the tech does the job right. The point reps will honor it with a printer they know . The PPG guys will pay for a full repaint on anything I do that fails because they know I didn't fuck it up. I have only had to use warranty twice in the last 15 years of using PPG and they paid for it in full without questioning me due to my reputation. A good custom shop should have a lot of examples of great work to show you and show you around the shop. If you want to talk to the techs they should be okay with that too. For colo spray outs will gladly provide those for free when you decide to bring the car in to get it done. That's pretty normal of the customer isn't sure about a color. If you aren't bringing the job in a shop may charge you an hour for the painters time and materials to do it . If your not sure ask to talk to the painter let me know your worries about things like orange peel and runs and bad color coverage and making sure everything's good. A good painter will be pretty confident in telling you they can make your car perfect if your paying for perfect . |

Probably not most of your guys style but my personal ride. Rebuilt from the ground up. I love this vehicle so I made it new again . I think I'm going to lower it a couple inches and put bigger rims on it though.  Next year I'm starting a bosozoku project . I the market for an 80s Honda. Probably take me a few years but it's going to be absolutely ridiculous but built to perfection and fast. Rear wheel driver turbo k swap is the plan . Google bosozoku car if you want to know how retarded I am lol |

Great work OP! I was doing this stuff back in the ‘80’s until I made a career change. I burned myself out bad in the 10 years I did it. Back in 1999 I wanted to do one more for myself. I found this “gem”  Took me about 14 years (with a 7 year hiatus due to life, funds and kids) to get it here.  Now my sons taken the role and is building Corvettes at a very high end level.

Wow, fantastic rides! I’m having a car restored currently. I don’t have the time or skill myself, but some of yall here are gifted. 1970 Z28 RS LT-1 4-speed in Mulsanne Blue with blue interior. Being prepared to take to Legends judging. It’s all numbers matching drivetrain and is original sheet metal throughout. Finished the last partsfor the power wagon. That's gonna be assembled when the frame is back from powdercoating Old supra 2jz turbo swapped getting molding shaved, body kit and full paint. Old bronco. 72? I think. In assembly. Not quite a full restore but close full fiberglass wide body made straight fitment and paint , built a cage to mount it on with insets so you can take all the panels off in 15 minutes to power wash the mud out. raptor lined the undercarriage and interior and top. Rewiring everything. Has a 5.0 mustang engine I believe .      |

I currently have a 70 skylark under the knife. Doing a restomod with it. I really, really want a chevelle but I don't have chevelle money so I settled for it's ugly cousin. Lol. I am just a poor working man so nothing is going to be quick with the build but I should have it driveable next spring. Once I figure out how to post a few pics I might get around to making a thread on it someday. Edit to add a few pics. since I went ahead and purchased a membership Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File This was a roller when I bought it last year. Since then I have rebuilt and installed a 5.3 ls, rebuilt and installed a chevy turbo 350 transmission, and a chevy 12 bolt with 455 posi gear. Working on rebuilding the brakes in the rear, new lines, and upgrade to disk brakes up front. I still have a ways to go. |

I have a driveway and yard full of them. I never was much of a body man myself. Something about sanding the same car for 100hr didn't appeal to me. I'm more of a mechanical guy, and dont mind assembling all the crap like doors and interiors. I farm my body work out to my uncle. Here's a few of my mustangs and a C-10. The C-10 is already completely done. Body work, paint, aftermarket AC, full interior, rebuilt a 12 bolt rear end with a tru-trac, 700r4, built a little 350 bullet, full wiring harness. The green one, I swapped the interior to deluxe avocado, swapped it to a tremec TKX, rebuilt the 351C, new exhaust, QA1 suspension. It still needs body work and paint. Next up on the chopping block is the rusty mach1. It probably needs $20k worth of body work and $10k of paint. Its rusty like swiss cheese. But its a screamer. It has the full total control QA1 coilover swap and a built 351W. This rusty one is a movie car. It was the hero car in The Hill, with yours truly driving it for some of the scenes. The blue car I'm giving to my uncle in exchange for doing the body work on my other one.  He's got a 460 thats gonna go in place of the current 302. Its a manual car with a T5 now. I reckon he'll run a TKX behind the 460.

I have 3. The jeep is waiting 3rd rebuil. It's a 94, I have owned since 95. It has a built 4.0 currently. Might go V8 next. The V is a 2011 and my current project. The 68 Camano is 8 years on its build. Unfortunately the hurricane that pushed through,flooded it and my trailer. I'm getting ready to pull the interior this weekend. | My son had some guys come by the shop and install the glass in the ‘67 corvette coupe in the above pics. He finding out how hard it is to find someone that does the old cars. I’m still in disagreement with how they did the windshield but there’s no way I can get down there to do it for him. |
