Wife and daughter have been wanting a tortoise for a while so we ended up with s red footed one a month or so ago. We started out with this enclosure and quickly got irritated with it's lack of easy access. It did, however, provide a good base to start with and the wife went to town. She's awesome with DIY stuff. What do others think? Anything we should add? Improve on? It needs a few finishing touches (paint mostly) but we're pretty happy with it.

The stick-on thermometer/hygromerter units are wildly inaccurate and don't stick for long so they either get lost in the substrate or stuck to your critter. You're better off with a temperature gun or IR point thermometer to monitor temps, and a hygrometer with a probe that goes into the enclosure but the main unit is outside. The thermostat probe is set up correctly, nice. Most new keepers mess that up. Are the plants live not fake? I don't typically put live plants in with my snakes since the plants would be squashed and dead within a week. Maybe the tort is less destructive. |
