I've always liked the way Bolts looked and am now in the position to buy one. As it turns out, I have always loved scramblers and I somehow missed that Yamaha made the SCR950 by using the Bolt as a starting point. Most reviewers hate it, and I suspect they are just regurgitating the same issues everyone already knows about. I already have an '87 Sportster and I have talked myself in to getting the SCR if not the R-Spec and C-Spec Bolts in the near future. They haven't made the SCR since '18 but these motorcycles are plentiful and relatively cheap with low to mid mileage. I am a 99% dirt rider but I love to take my little TW200 on county road jaunts, but it is underpowered as hell. A What does the hive mind think? My dad has a 2017 SCR950 and I've got a 1997 Sportster 883. Honestly I was surprised how peppy the SCR is compared to my Harley. Some of that is probably the FI, but either way the Yamaha has a bit more power. Geometry wise the Yamaha has a bit better ergos, but they're close. One thing my dad did to his was replace the controls with what's on the Bolt R. If you look in your pics the Bolt has a more normal mid control setup and the SCR has more rearward swept controls. The mid controls are a lot more comfortable if you're on the bike for a while. My .02 would be just get the Bolt R unless you absolutely love the SCR looks. Like you said, they're cheap and plentiful. |

I’m a Yamaha guy (I have 3 in the garage right now) and that thing should be bulletproof. Gonna depend on what you need it to do. Cruise around town? Should be fine. If you want it to do real scrambler stuff?Well, it’s pretty heavy and doesn’t have enough power to pull your dick straight. |

Yamaha veryday and 2x on Sunday. Also - I'm a new TW200 owner...love that little thing. I plan on throwing some exhaust and jet kit at it to hopefully gain a little more hp. If that doesn't work, I may throw down on a big bore kit, cam/head from Bradley Performance with pumper carb. |

I had a BOLT for two years. Nice easy ride with plenty of HP. I did do the Ivans Performance ECU flash and was worth every penny!!! Ran so much better. Here Good luck |

Found a NOS Bolt and got a sweet deal on it. I'll still be on the lookout for a low-miles SCR. The only complaint is that airbox design. I don't know who the test rider was that rode the prototype and said "this is good". Because it ain't. Vance and Hines or Cobra to the rescue... Attached File |

I ride it all of the time, even in winter, as long as there is no ice on the ground. Was looking for another bike because I gave my son my old Honda. My first street bike was a Vstar and so I was pining again for a Yamaha. I'm a happy customer.  |

Been thinking about which sissy bar, fairing, and foorboard to get. Good to see them on a bike in live action. |

Since that first photo was taken, I swapped out the side covers for these aluminum ones and added a heavily modified headlight grill for a Triumph that I really had to work to get to fit, blacked out the exhaust shields too. Hepco & Becker rider's backrest is a Godsend. What irritates me is that Yamaha at one time had a whole line of excellent accessories for this bike and now most of them are discontinued. Yamaha has given their cruiser line the shaft in the last 10 years. No more Stryker, Raider, Warrior, etc.  |
