I'm fuggin dying ![]() The performance uplift is minimal once you factor in the increased cost and power draw over the 4090. Other than the admittedly very impressive 2 slot cooler this seems like a miss at least at the price. If it was the same cost as the 4090 it would be a different story. Really curious to see how the 5080 does since it is half the card as the 5090 on paper. |

The handful of sites I've check seem to be average ~25-35% more performance than a 4090. Best case ~50% faster than 4090 and worst case slightly under 4090. Computerbase.de did a restricted thermal test in a Fractal Torrent with an aircooled 9800x3d and Noctua D15. Results were interesting, cooking the 9800x3d at 95C, they bumped the fans up a bit and dropped temps ~10C, then ramped fans all the way up to get temps ~5C under what the 4090 did in the initial restricted test. Edit- This doesn't look like a good idea for SFF cases with really limited airflow options. |

Really curious to see how the 5080 does since it is half the card as the 5090 on paper. I'm a little over half way through the HU vid. Benchmarks are all over the place. There were at least 2 instances at 1440p where the 4090 was faster. So far, I'm incredibly underwhelmed. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I might skip the 5090 at this point. I want to see benchmarks for AIBs with decent coolers before deciding one way or another, but it's not looking great for 4090 owners so far. From the Hardware Unboxed vid: 1440p 17 game average shows 4090 with 130 fps 1% lows, 171 fps average. 5090 with 144 fps 1% lows, 192 fps average. 4k 17 game average shows 4090 with 87 fps 1% lows, 108 fps average. 5090 with 106 fps 1% lows, 137 fps average. |

It's so whack they have to ask viewers to sell them cards for review. ![]() I've been pretty harsh on the new series and objectively from a price to performance increase standpoint, it seems deserved after the reviews came out. Even being the case, there are going to be people that need these cards for one reason or another, and the supply sounds truly awful. For me, and everybody else on a 30 series or older, a 50 series still may make enough sense to warrant purchasing (It'll be another couple years at least before we get another crack at new cards), but it won't be if I can't even find one. |
|
The generation over generation increase in performance is pretty good (Jay said ~35% across the games they tested) and of course will vary more or less based on the game. The biggest issue is the $500 MSRP price jump over the 4090, and for those who already have a 4090 it's probably not worth taking the hit unless you just don't care and want the latest high end card. For those on 30XX series and wanting to go 4k there is obviously nothing better. I really wish the 5080 had 24 gigs of VRAM ![]() Based on comments so far I am not impressed with the multi-frame gen, and the latency it ads. I mostly play FPS online with some MSFS mixed in. Adding latency to an online FPS is no bueno. |

Going for a 70TI or 80. Currently on a 3060Ti so I know I’ll get a good lift in performance but comparing a 4080 to a 5080, I think 10-15% improvement is a realistic…look than what their marketing department is pushing. Would be a great time for AMD to push a “real frames” card but gonna be behind the curve I think |

The GN video was helpful. It looks like the FE has two exhaust streams. One is at a really nice angle but the other looks like it would dump heat into a CPU fan/heatsink tower.. I don't know how that compares to what the 4090 was doing but something to consider. |

If you have the space for it, having a massive brick isn't necessarily a problem (In fact, I fully expect aftermarket cards to have better thermals), but I certainly don't have the space for it. |

Lot of people were expecting a <$500 price point but I think $549 RX9070XT and $479 RX9070 was more likely before we got Nvidia's numbers. I'm thinking we will likely see $599 and $499 at best but it would be funny if AMD launches their cards at their "regular" pricing and makes Nvidia drop prices quickly after launch. At 4k RX9070XT appears to be between 7900XTX and 7900XT while the RX9070 seems to be between a 7900XT and 7900GRE. Quite a few cases they match the higher end of that spectrum and a few worst cases match the bottom end. RT seems to follow a similar trend with RX9070XT matching or beating the 7900XTX in most cases with the RX9070 doing the same to the 7900XT, even a few times getting close to 7900XTX. RX9070XT matches up well against the RTX4080 while the RX9070 does quite well against the RTX4070Ti Super. Assuming from Nvidia's bar charts that RTX5070 = ~RTX4070Ti and RTX5070Ti = ~RTX4080, AMD is in fine shape depending on price and power. Power, I'm hoping to see the RX9070 @ ~200w and the RX9070XT @ ~250-275w but that is probably too optimistic. Supposed Internal AMD testing of N48 Edit- I really need to upgrade from my 5700XT and would love a Red Devil RX9070XT but I think price/performance will push me to a RX9070. |

It seems like Nvidia wants to push folks that might get by with an 80 series to the 5090. 30x0 and 40x0 definitely pushed the high end pc market to prefer the x090 cards. 30x0 supply was a shit show and even though the MSRP of the 3080 was 'half' of the 3090 the actual supply from retailers was often within striking distance of a 3090 and at that point if you are already spending $1.5k... you might as well get the 3090. 40x0 continued that trend but on a more official level. With the price delta being a few hundred dollars and consumers already 'used' to spending $1600 a gpu anyways (Thanks 3080ti) the 4090 was kind of a shoe in. The 4080 Super didn't really move the needle much in that impression. Too little too late? 50x0 is really where the price delta might make a difference, assuming the partners don't fuck up the prices and we once again see a $1000 card become $1600. Assuming a 2x the price delta for less than 2x the performance and it's going to be harder for the run of the mill person to justify the 5090. Then again, as I type that out: Who am I kidding? Of course we'll see $1600 5080s. |

Meh The one fan of the two fans in the 3000/4000 series was already doing that and the 2nd fan closer to the IO/back was maybe pushing a quarter of its air out the back of the GPU. It's not like it was dumping all that hot air out the back. |
