SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Do not read this if you care about Clair Obscur spoilers.

This game was amazing. I really liked Esquie and Monoco.

I really like the whole thing about writers vs painters.

I just loved the little attention to details they gave it. Makes it so much more real.

Especially when you think the painters who created this world are just “kids” and create characters based on their lives. Also just the concept of these effective Gods doing all this in a “fake but it’s real to me dammit” world

Monoco and Noco? Their 2 real life dogs painted in. You can see them in the mansion. Probs why they’re my fav as well. Esquie is a stuffed…Esquie. You get to see him if you choose the “better” ending.

Is the entire world of E33 fantastical? We have people going into paintings. Or is it just all the imagination of one person?

My understanding is that you have at least a guild worth of painters, however many that might be? And each one is capable of creating such worlds.

In 33s case, at least as presented, it’s a blend from each of the real world family. Each added something to the game world, whether for good or bad.

Probably the easiest GOTY in recent memory. Story, music, voice acting, all top notch.

Certainly some minor flaws, but I thoroughly enjoyed it...I'm not sure if I'm up for a NG+ run, though. The endings don't really lend themselves to wanting to return to the world.

DLC prediction? Possibly Expedition 0, covering the fracture and the "family" finding out they're all paintings.

Here's what I wrote behind spoiler tags in the other thread:

- I hate multiple endings. Be brave and give a single, canonical ending.
 - I get what they were doing with the story, and it might be the least offensive (to me) way to do multiple endings.
 - Though there is a "good" and "bad" ending, there is not "happy" ending. (not necessarily a criticism, but an observation)
- After the "good" ending, it's jarring to return to the world for more adventures. It doesn't fit at all with the narrative.

- Act III is actually pretty poorly executed, both from a story perspective and a gameplay one.
 - Story wise, the end of the game is less than an hour from the end of Act II
 - Gameplaywise, it's too easy to become too overpowered. The damage limit picto should have been a reward from the final boss. Combined with ridiculous XP rewards - I hit level 81 mostly by accident (though I appreciate the lack of forced grinding like JRPGs from the '90s had).

- The knowledge that the game spans 3 acts spoils the end of Act II.

- Each act is almost its own separate story - it's quite disjointed, and apparently by design.
 - The end of Act II basically invalidates the entire story to that point. The titular "Expedition 33" was a red herring, and it's over.
 - Alicia/Maelle's entire part in the story was actually unnecessary. Aline was weakening (hence the yearly gommage), and Renoir would have rescued her from the painting eventually.
- Yes, I understand what they were doing with the story. Building everything up to the final decision at the end of the game. I just didn't find it particularly compelling...but maybe I'm spoiled by other media like The Matrix, Inception, etc.

I don't want to dog the game any more than this. I really did enjoy it, and hope it wins GOTY. I guess it just bothers me how close it came to perfection - it makes these few issues stand out more.

I think that bit of story was executed perfectly.

I hope it's not expanded on in a sequel. I hope there is no sequel; the game stands tall as a contained story, and a sequel runs the risk of ruining everything (like the Matrix movies or Assassin's Creed games).

I think that was basically Max Dood's opinion, too.

I agree that the third act getting the damage break ability was too early and if you were exploring, like I was, it could cause you to miss some really good parts of the boss fights.

Did any of the last bosses have any exposition between turns? I 1-shot everything at the end of the story and didn't see anything.

Kind of a bummer if that's the case.

Exposition, not really, but there was some cool moments throughout the fight. I beat it at level 50, no Cheater or Roulette picto.

There's a lot of good commentary in the final fight, though.

I'm working on side stuff now. My build must suck because I'm at levels 75-80 and no one character does more than 6-9k damage. I get some good crits, occasionally, over 10-40k with Maelle crit'ing for 100-200k on the rare attack. My biggest hit so far was with Maelle at level 80 and Stendahl hitting for 1.7 million, but it's only done that a couple of times.

Really all about stacking damage pictos on whoever you wanna use for damage (I use Maelle and Stendhal as well), she has the weapon that starts you in virtuoso mode. Then Verso marks, Sciel does the 2x dmg buff, and Maelle nukes. There’s even more efficient ways like casting powerful and defenseless-big your enemy but the above worked fine for 99% of the mobs

I use that same weapon. It's basically Maelle's best weapon, IMO.

There are some pretty sick builds out there. This is one of the better ones:

Easy Build for Simon or Any Boss | Clair Obscur E33

I also saw an "immortal Verso" setup:
