So how involved of a process is it to replace the chromeOS on a Chromebook with Linux?  I am looking to pick up a Chromebook to mess around with but it is older and the updates are EOL. Wanting to use it to run a Linux VM but thinking that just wiping and making it a Linux OS.

This  article details the process.  I haven't tried it yet (I don't own a Chromebook)

I dont think its really worth the effort.  Chromebooks have specs comparable to a mid-tier phone.  They are a bit of a joke compared to even a bargain bin laptop from best-buy's open box bin.

Thanks I had one site I looked at that looked like it was written by a schizo but that one is a bit clearer.

Yeah well I don’t really need computing power just a portable interface to run a wireless router and act as an interface with a java based program. It will literally have no other purpose.
