I am not busting your balls for being Catholic...I dont have any Catholic hate. I was merely pointing out it is not as definitive as you put it. I doubt most protestants consider that principle as biblical given the timeframe of its origin. |

Obedience is not patriotism. Patriotism is love of your country, not of your government.

Originally Posted By Canoeguy: I am not busting your balls for being Catholic...I dont have any Catholic hate. I was merely pointing out it is not as definitive as you put it. I doubt most protestants consider that principle as biblical given the timeframe of its origin. There's thousands and thousands of hours of background reading on this just to arrive at a pretty OK understanding of the Schisms and centuries of internal Christian conflict sparked by contention with Papal primacy vs equal patriarchy, adherence to Papal bulls, description of what this "Holy Spirit" even constitutes, eucharistic bread composition, cause for excommunication, Predestination vs Free Will, authority to and beneficiary of various taxes, divorce and annulment, "Did Mary remain a virgin her whole life?", Reformation vs Restoration, Predestinationalist Calvinism vs Arminianism Compatibilism, a scarce 144,000 'Elect' who will be saved vs Grace open to all humankind, Sola Fida vs Works, infant baptism, and on and on. At the core of all of these contentious examples above was the fundamental argument of which side was biblically maintaining true Christian theological principles while keeping the earliest primitive Christian teachings intact. And in any position where there's no incongruence in early doctrine, it's been left untouched. Protestantism never threw out the whole stewpot and started out anew with fresh ingredients, it only tore out and set fire to specific pages, paragraphs, and phrases in existing Church canon. Because of this, that other poster above is right in maintaining that the door was thrown wide open so long ago that there ought not be surprise you now see some Episcopalian female priest claiming Jesus was actually transgender. Of course it sounds absurd on its face but it's hardly the strangest mainline Protestant position even taken. Another example: We cannot really know if Origen of Alexandria actually castrated himself making himself a Eunuch and encouraging others to do the same thanks to his misreading of a poorly interpreted Greek translation of Jesus of Nazareth's 'Sermon on the Mount', but that's what Origen's theologic enemies claimed he did when they declared him (one of their own most respected Church Fathers) a heretic after his death and spent a century tramping through Europe, Asia Minor, and Africa trying to confiscate and burn all his writings. Fast forward to today where Origen is still quoted as a cherished authority by all Christian movements despite more than half of the extant writings attributed to him being thought to be later pious forgeries. That's just one example of where your "I doubt most Protestants today [know or consider those] principles given the timeframe" rubber meets the road. Wouldn't surprise me a bit the laypeople would say "Wait. What? We DO?!" on a very long list of their foundational principles. |

Being someone who isn’t Christian, who focuses on Esoteric studies…….I’m glad you guys are now getting the nutters too. It’s common to lump anyone who says they practice such things into the same mold, while refusing to see there are level headed individuals that are involved in such things. They don’t see things the way you do, but their approach is just as practical , but they automatically get associated with the nutters of their respective fields. Being used to having such an association thrown on me, I can understand this individual is indeed not a Christian, and is in fact a nutter. Hopefully, this will lead some of you to realize other camps deal with the same shit, although I doubt it will be many. Moonbats seem to be gathering in your worlds too. Enjoy!! |
