Just like the title says….

I am using something like this:

As my hands start to slip down the rope, my fingers get like squashed on that plastic stop.

It does kinda hurt.

And I always feel like I am in a race to get my reps in before I completely lose my grip.

Is there another, better attachment that I could be using?

I have the same problem.  Just too lazy to look for a solution.  I wonder if the Ergo grip tricep accessories or using V shaped TRX accessories and wrapping your wrists through them would work?  Fat Grips fit on the rope too.

If you're stuck with what the gym has, try to stay conscious of your grip the whole time.  I find it only really hurts when I let the grip slip from forgetting about my hands.

I don't do that particular exercise, but Mark Bell makes an attachment I find way more comfortable for almost any cable exercise than the type you're using.

Does your gym have one of those weighted crunch machines that looks like a seated leg extension machine?

Might be a better option for weighted work.

Personally I would rather just do static work like a 6" drill or L sits.

I have this “condition” called diastasis recti (DR).

I have probably had it since the early 1990’s.

And it is possible that doing regular elbow to knee situps (kinda Rocky style) actually made it worse.

Yes, DR is something pregnant women get.

This is what it looks like:

To me, it kinda reminds me of a keel …. Like if a boat capsized and its keel was pointing straight up at the sky.

I think I know the machine you are talking about;

Now granted it was a year or so ago when I tried that machine last, but sure enough I could feel that “keel” protrude through my stomach as I used that machine.

Same thing when I tried the captain’s chair:

I do banded hip flexors every time I am the gym:

I might just have to order that.

Use 2 of the single hand attachments like you would for fly's. you have a full handhold pulling down and not mashing fingers, the 1 with the hard plastic roller you hold.
That strap above will just go from mashing your pinky on the plastic end to smashing your whole hand in it with crunching the stack like that.

What about a v bar or straight bar attachment held at the crown of your head?

I guess the trick there would be to not let your arms take over the work.

DR…I got real sick a few years back and put on over 100# of fluid (while in a coma). Ever since then I’ve had that going on. Freaked me out when I first noticed it.

Has it caused you any issues beyond looking/feeling odd? My surgeon said not to worry about it, and it really hasn’t given much reason to worry. Other than looking weird.

We had to do SERE the summer between our freshman year and sophomore year.

So in the mock POW camp, they strip you down to various levels.  It gets cold in the Colorado mountains at night.  So they had a whole bunch of us lined up shirtless, just in our BDU pants and boots …black bags over our heads.  There was this was one female senior cadet who was playing guard, so in her broken english-Russian accent she goes, “ALRIGHT!  WHO’S THE BUDDHA BELLY?”

So there’s that….

And in general being in good shape according to all the fitness tests we had to do, but looking like shit with a beer belly or pot belly any time a group picture was taken.  There was one of the 4 of us taken down at Puerta Penasco.  My old roommate and his girlfriend.  And then the girlfriend’s best friend out on the beach.  I looked like shit.

I try to do more rotational or oblique exercises to try to get the DR “gap” to close up.

I am just about to leave the gym.

That worked really well.

Thank you!

By rotational exercises, I mean stuff like this:

Do that for a minute right handed.  Rest for a minute.  Then do it left handed for a minute.

Then there are “wall-ball throws”:

And not really a rotational exercise…..I call these “French surrenders”:

Attached File

I do 6 laps back and forth in that room, right handed.  Rest.  Then switch so the dumb bell is hanging off the left side.  With the DB swinging around and bouncing up and down, your core has to be “engaged” to keep you vertical and walking in a straight line.

Ive heard that called wood choppers also, the rotation from High to Low.
I do them on a cable machine both H2L and L2H, makes your obliques love you long time...

And you are most welcome.

Yeah….I bet.

I figured out a way to shove more weight on the stack:

Attached File

When my gym had Nautilus machines, they used to have two of every machine.  One with the lighter plates….which I called the “woman’s machine” and then a machine with the heavier plates.

It never failed back then….some woman would be on the heavy vertical press machine “benching” just 50 pounds.

Anywhooo….the other rotational exercise I have learned lately an adaptation of the pec fly machine.

Attached File

Put your left shoulder against the back rest.  Then grab what would be normally be the left handle with your right hand.  The motion basically looks like you are back handing someone.

Switch so the right shoulder is against the back rest.  Rinse, repeat.

Huh….interesting.

I’ll have to look to see what my gym has.

I tried this exercise tonight:

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BoiuUm1Ew/

Just 10 lefts and 10 rights….

Dayumn!  It hit my lower abdominals.

EDIT:  here is a screen shot if you don’t like FB:

Start in the up position:

Lean back:

Finish or stop wherever you comfortable at (I am nowhere near this flexible):

Do you train grip? I have noticed on a few exercises that my grip starts to fail before the target muscle group, so my son and I do a grip targeted superset every couple days, always at the end of the workout.

We do a couple different things, but not all of them in the same session.

1. My favorite is a superset. I grab a short barbell (25 or 30lbs). I do 15 wrist curls behind the back. Let the bar roll down to the tips of the fingers, roll it back up and curl the wrist up. Then swing the bar around and do 15 wrist extensions in the front. 30 to 60 second rest, do it again. 3 sets. Hell of a forearm pump. Sometimes I can barely hold my Hydroflask by the bottle.
2. Farmer carry
3. dumbbell in each hand arms in front, bent 90°, neutral grip and rock the dumbbells back and forth like moroccos.
4. sit on a bench with a single dumbbell. Grab one end with both hands, like grabbing a baby's head. Rest forearms on your knees and lift the other end of the dumbbell up.
