Why the 8x57JRS? Under most circumstances the .30-06 is a better cartridge. Unless you want to use a short barrel. The 8x57JRS has a superior expansion ratio which means you lose very little when you use a short barrel. From a 20 to 21 inch barrel you can easily exceed 2500 fps with a 200 grain bullet. And it will only take 45 grains of H-4895 to get you there. The recoil is also much less than you might expect. So for a short barrelled powerhouse, you might want to pick the 8x57. |

What does a rig like that weigh? Classy as usual sir . To me I believe I might back it down a bit (because I am a weanie when it comes to recoil). 375Winchestor maybe. Kind of a hard to find factory but I own a Marlin Lever in 375Winchestor so I have cases and bullets. 30-30 for a light version. Sort of thinking light to speed up the second shot. Two very quick shots is what the goal is here , right? |
