I know you can supposedly send it back to Seiko, but I hear they often replace the movement, which I would like to avoid. Any actually good independent shops? |

I have my Rolex serviced locally by a very reputable watchmaker. Cool guy. German immigrant, heavy accent, workshop looks like a clean room, great equipment, fabulous watches on the bench and on the shelves. And he's quite security-conscious. He also knows his limits, he refused to work on my Sinn chrono and recommended I send it to the US repair operation (RGM). You do have to use some judgement. Any watchmaker is always busy and backed up to the tune of months. However, anyone too busy to give you the time of day  , a tour of the shop, and show some examples of what they are working on is suspect. If the shop looks like a junkyard that may or may not be a good sign, but the workstation better be like a miniature clean room.I'm not familiar with Seiko factory service. They might be a better deal than a local watchmaker. It's a different story for Rolex! |

| Seiko movements are cheaply made so it’s far more cost effective to junk them and drop in a new one than for a skilled watchmaker to spend a bunch of time tinkering with them. |

| I have an excellent, excellent, multiple certified local guy. He works on everything but Seikos, because they won't sell him parts. Unless someone else has a solution, you're going to have to send it to Seiko. Expensive IMO, but fast. |
