I have finally decided to get one. No powermatic, overpriced and owned by JPW Industries Baileigh MC-625 Amazon $679 owned by JPW Industries Jet JBM-5 Amazon $500 owned by JPW Industries Grizzly G0645 Grizzly $413 $679 get me a tilting base and head. I found a review from 10 years ago, price: $330 lets go brandon  Recommendations? I really do not want to get a sub $300 one, too many bad reviews. ETA: The base is cracked on the Baileigh. RMA submitted. |

I dont have one of the ones you listed, but most of them appear to have the same basic castings. The one I have is a General. The head doesn't pivot. That may be a good feature if you are builing more modern style chairs? But the one I have is made in Taiwan, as most all less than 25 years old probably were too. The Generals had one of the better looking hold-downs, which is why I bought it , maybe 15 years ago (at least). Its not heavily used, but I'm glad to have it. I had one of the delta drill press conversion kits. Now that thing was bad - especially the hold-down. |

Out of those, I would probably go with the Baileigh simply because of the X-Y table (even though the adjustment wheel looks tiny). I had the Powermatic 719A (non-tilting) and what made it is awesome was the x-y table. I couldn't imagine how much of a PITA it would be to clamp and unclamp before/after every plunge? I know when people are using the standard types without an x-y table they don't clamp the piece fully so then can at least move side to side but that's not a great solution because sometimes the chisel gets stuck and you need the workpiece fully clamped to get the bit out. So for me personally, its an x-y table or nothing. Oh and be sure to sharpen/fully polish the chisels It makes a big difference. |

I've got the Jet and am happy with it overall. I don't use it all that much but it does the job especially with the better chisel bits. Sharp chisels are the most important part of this tool. From your list I'd say avoid the Grizzly from personal experience and talking to friends who've been suckered into a Grizzly tool. Their high end stuff is decent, but at a similar price point you can get so much higher quality from the other manufacturers. |

Well I dumped $680 for the Baileigh MC-625. I am not a festool fan boy. I want to do more stuff with mortise and tenon joinery. |

Really? I sent that picture along with others back to the seller. The boxes are too damaged to reuse. The seller is about 5 hours from me... |

JPW will be sending me a new base free of charge but right they are 0 on stock. Estimated ship date, Nov. I have to move before that (AD).
