There’s more kitchen aid mixers than 2005 had any of the following: (1) RRA rifles; (2) 1 MOA Denny’s Guns’ stainless steel uppers; (3) capital letters in MSTN’s posts. Old farts, please help me. Help my hot ass wife, who, like a bunch of your hot ass wives, has been making sourdough for the last year. I want to buy her a mixer that is practical but enough for the task. Is Kitchenaid Classic enough? Deluxe? Artisan? Do I need a commercial mixer for sourdough? Help me GD |

A standard 5 qt. Kitchen aid will preform adequately for two loaves, any more and it will struggle. I have a kitchenaid, if I were to start over again, I'd give Bosch a serious look. |

I have a kitchen aide. I suggest getting the one where the bowl drops out opposed to the one with the flip up head. The head gets sloppy after a while and in this instance, sloppy head is no good. Ankarsrum My sourdough baking wife says they are made for making bread dough. Didn't find any on sale for BF or CM so free shipping from King Arthur baking was the best I could do. Make sure you deal with an authorized dealer if you want the warranty. |

My wife used the kitchen aide shes had for a while. Now she has some fancy ass kind. To me the irony is the cost of all these fancy ingredients is being used on a bread that was ment for the poorest of people. And I dont tell the difference between any of the kind she makes. |

Pics not loading? Anyways for bread, skip the Kitchenaid tilt head models and go right to the drop bowl versions. Ask me how I know.  I have a 350 watt tilt head version and it struggles with stiff bread dough. iirc the base wattage was 275 but they had other versions I think in 300 and 325 watt as well through the years. I have used mine enough on breads and it gets warm. I have to shut it down and let it cool before kneading again. I have carefully used it long enough on breads that my hinge pin walks out in use. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

I can't figure out their lineup and market strategy. I have notices that some seem to have 2-year warranty and others just a one. That may signal something about build, but both are awful short (though standard for the industry). Ours is a relative cheapy, stared leaking oil at the 10-year mark or so. I took it apart, repacked it with grease, and it's been fine the past 5 years. She doesn't use it app that much, 10 times a year, maybe. Consumer Reports reviews on this stuff are 100% focused on performance, and offer nothing on perceived or demonstrated reliability, which used to be KitchenAid's main selling point. If you get a kitchenaid, you want the professional bowl-lift series, NOT the tilt-head ones. There are a couple others that are at least as good as the kitchenaid, but you can often find kitchenaid on sale. Don't pay full price. Also get an extra bowl or two for it, so she can have multiple batches in-flight, with cold ferments, without having to swap them in/out of bowls. |
| We haven't bought grocery store or bakery bread in over 25yrs. A bread machine makes the process a lot faster and easier. These machines can also make sourdough. In essence, you are just substituting the sourdough for the yeast. Sourdough bread in a bread machine is easy, no-yeast, no-knead, and hands-off. |

I have 2 KA tilt heads, the pins are walking out faster and faster the more they are used. Never had any other issues but next time I buy one it will be a lift bowl. |

It still worked, but they bought a new one because his wife didn't like the 'dated' old dryer they had (it was an ugly color). Even I would do a quick run thru them occasionally but I had a pretty good idea what stuff was worth new and used and what a repair would cost and I could get wholesale pricing on a lot of the parts. Good old washers and dryers and ranges, especially if gas,got snapped up quick by LLD's. I've been known to snatch up old 110 series kenmore appliances off the side of the road because fixing them was a breeze most of the time and they were a very robust design. I still have a spare gas 110 kenmore dryer waiting in the wings to be put to use. I still have tons of odds and ends for them including timers [the parts that gets discontinued first usually] |
