Coming up on our Nation's 246th Anniversary, I thought I'd share this little known historical fact that I recently learned of. Being born and raised in Maryland, I've always been proud of my upbringing and of my State. I grew up mostly on the Eastern Shore, which is a night and day difference from the "other side". Yes I love the "sh*thouse side" of Maryland, a term of non-endearment from former Baltimore Mayor and MD Governor William Donald Shaefer, whom is equally adored by 'shore residents....not. Anyway, another glaring exposure of the liberal elite's true assessment of working class America and their destruction of all things good. Nevertheless, just six weeks after the signing of the Declaration of independence, there took place a battle in Long Island, New York between the British under General Howe with approximately 2,000 troops with two cannons and ~270 Maryland troops commanded by Major Mordicai Gist from the First Maryland Regiment commanded by General Lord Stirling. The young, mostly inexperienced Marylanders attacked a far superior number of British and Hessian troops over and over again to bide enough time for General Washington's Army to escape the assured destruction by the British Army.
