Ok guys. Wanted to see if anyone might be able to help me figure this out. The instructions are here. A separate wiring diagram is here. The fan has a light, night light, and fan. It has a selectable speed setting and a condensation sensor. On the unit itself there are several wires. For the light there is the neutral (white), black (light), and blue (night light). For the fan there is a white wire and black wire). Then there are two red wires for the "boost" or allegedly switch operation. Coming into the box, I have a three wire. The neutrals in the box are all tied together. The red wire (from this three wire) is tied to the a Lutron Maestro Dual Dimmer and Switch Single Pole and another switch in the box (for the fan on the bathroom fan). The third wire from the three wire is feeding another line that goes across the bathroom. Coming off the Dimmer switch is another three wire going up to the light, nightlight, and neutral. The light and night light operate as intended. Coming off the second switch (which is also getting power from the three wire coming into the box) is a 12/2 wire (neutrals tied into the other neutrals at the box and the fan). The fan side of it is tied in to the leads black to black and white to white. There is a third switch in the box that has 12/2 going up to the fan. It is not connected to anything other than the switch in the box and there is no power in the box run to that switch. That 12/2 is connected to the two red wires coming off the fan for the "boost" function or as I understand turning the fan on absent the humidity sensor activating the fan. All the grounds at the box are tied together and all the grounds at the fan are tied together. For the life of me, I cannot get this fan to turn on. I have turned on the switch to the fan (the energized 12/2) and left it on for some time. Nothing. Checked the humidity settings, turned it all the way down to 30% (it's been more humid than that in the attic) and gotten nothing from the fan. Having that switch turned on and flipping the switch to the red wires has also resulted in no response from the fan. A voltage test pen indicates that when the wall power switch for the fan is on, there is current running down the "dead" 12/2 for the red wires. If those wires are disconnected, there is still current in the red wires when the fan is turned on. I've spent a few hours looking on google for answers or to see if anyone has had this problem. Nothing useful has turned up and everything indicates that I have seemingly wired this correctly. So before I call Panasonic on Monday, I wanted to see if any of you guys might know what the answer is. Thanks! |

Perhaps obvious, but you need three working switches for those fans, at least if you want to control each of those features independently. If you don't have three working switches, you can use the humidity module for auto fan control, or wire two of those functions together. I had the nightlight tied to fan operation since it's so quiet. Helps to know we left it on, but if I had do it again, I'd wire the fan to the main light instead, so we could actually use the nightlight. I suppose I'll do that eventually. With regard to troubleshooting, I'd start by unplugging the humidity module. |

Thanks guys. I went to break out my multimeter but it isn't functioning (and no it wasn't the battery). I just bought a new one and will check things in the AM. As far as unplugging the humidity module, I took the fan apart to check all of the connections and I don't see a way I can disconnect it and have the fan operated at all. I'll see how things look in the morning. |

An update. Took my new multimeter and started measuring voltages. Everything on the box side was fine. Went upstairs and all of the wiring read correctly up there too. Checked continuity on the pig tail harness and the connected was deeply recessed in there. To the point that I don't think it is making contact. So I think I found my issue. It wasn't the wiring I ran (which is a relief). Appreciate the advice folks! |
