Only 2 games I play right now on a gaming PC I built.

AI hasn't been much help diagnosing, just send me in circles and keep getting the constant" oh you are absolutely right, thanks for pointing out my mistake" messages.

Was able to play ACE fine for a few months before I decided to get back into FPS after a couple buddies said Zombies was pretty cool shooter.

Zombies worked for a few sessions over the course of a week(I play make 60 minutes or less a day) then I try to play ACE and it wouldn't even load. Tried a few fixes, reinstall the game and that didn't work so I took a break. Went back to Zombies and it would just freeze, needing a hard reset.

Went back to ACE and figured that out( hopefully) just deleted the program files folder with settings etc and had the game build a new one..It at least launched, haven't made any graphics adjustments or played the game, but I at least got it to.launch. Afraid to try and launch COD again thinking it is corrupting something in ACE.

Any body run into the same problem? This is strictly a gaming box, might watch a few YT videos and Gemini, but that's it. What could be the conflicting problem here?

5090 FE, 64g RAM, AMD 7 9800X3D, Win 11 Pro. Latest graphic drivers, Windows up to date.

What are your CPU/GPU temps at load? Any PSU issues?

no blue screen error?  Just a frozen screen?  Any sound in the background?  Frozen picture or black screen?

Could be many things.  Could be GPU, could be PSU leading to GPU failure due to lack of power.  Could be software issue.  Could be virus.  Could be files corrupted on the game itself. Could be hdd/SSD.

Many possibilities. Need more info.

I didn't notice anything abnormal, I seem to recall 37c when playing.

Nothing is OC'd, water cooled, 5 fans pulling, 3 pushing air.

I have a Lian Li 1200w PS

Ya, I understand its stupid hard to diagnose online.. its been a looong ass time since I built a computer..I think the last one was a Pentium, Voodoo 3d, Soundblaster etc

Little bit easier to diagnose crashed back then lol Seems every game issue involved video drivers, lotsa of rolling back drivers back then.

The screen just freezes in game, it has never went to a black screen.

Is there any sort of reliable program that captures what happens when the PC freezes?

If the game is literally freezing in place, no black screen, can't do anything, just frozen and have to hard restart:  GPU or PSU.

The GPU is the main culprit, for both components causing this issue.

If the GPU itself is overheating, or has a dying component, this can happen.

If the GPU is losing power due to the PSU failing, this can also happen.

No real cheap way to test it. You can buy a PSU tester, but unless you buy a decent one (not cheap) it won't properly test the pci-e connectors and will only test the basic functions.

If it's a PSU that has cables you can hot swap, it could very well be the cable too.

TLDR:  The GPU is the issue, ultimately, but might not be the cause. Could be GPU or PSU.

Have you checked the physical power connections from the PSU to GPU? They like to melt on those higher-end cards.

Yes, I have a touch of OCD and was well aware of the problems with the angle of the power connection on the 5090 FE cards.

Thanks for your time BTW, I really appreciate it.

If the problem was the GPU or PSU, wouldn't it be really consistent? Would a 3D benchmark program uncover any GPU problems?

So last nite I went ahead and started ACE and tweaked all the settings the way I like them, pretty much ultra on everything.

Game ran fine the whole time, maybe 60 minutes of playing.

I didn't try to play COD because i think there is something in that game causing the crashing...The crashing really started when I started playing COD.

One thing I noticed between the 2 games is the preloading of shaders, seems to take a long time so Im assuming shaders are big files.. Can it be that the preloaded shaders of both games is impossible to handle, only way to correct this is to turn off shaders somehow? Is 64gb RAM not enough? I bought RAM right before they blew up and would hate to spend $1k on another 64gb when the last 64gb was under $400..But if it possibly solves this problem..

What about this:

Disable "On-Demand Texture Streaming" (The Main Culprit)
This single setting is notorious for causing immediate hard freezes on high-end PCs during Zombies. It streams high-resolution textures from Activision's servers directly to your hardware while you play, rather than pulling them from your local storage.

I don't have the greatest internet connection, its a 5g wireless box from Verizon. With all the other shit running in the house(GF streaming Netflix, son 1 streaming music and videos, son 2 playing games online) could this possibly be the problem?

I wouldn't think so, unless it's corrupting the download. Otherwise it should just use the lower-poly textures.

It wouldn't be that because its happening across multiple games.

To answer the question, no, it wouldn't be consistent, that's the issue. If a PSU is having power problems that only exist during specific thresholds of power consumption, it could entirely not happen at all, or happen all the time. If the PSU is failing hard, it will begin to do it a lot, but you'd likely encounter BSOD or random restarts more and more frequently until it dies, and less freezing because the system would just crash.

The same can be said of a GPU. If a component is failing, it can still work for a while unless it fails entirely. Then when certain conditions come up that utilize that component more indepth than before, it freezes.

The problem with diagnosing this specific problem is how broad it can be. Honestly, if you're not tech savvy enough to do it yourself, you may need to take it to a shop, and ensure the shop is well known and does good work. A mom and pop shop with a 60+ year old owner who fixes it as a hobby might not find the issue.

This issue would require rigorous testing of all components that could trigger the issue. Taking each part out and hammering it until we find out if it works or not. Stressing it to the limits to find a failure point, and whether or not that failure was induced by us or the component. There are tools that can help with that, but they aren't always cheap.

Sometimes its as easy and using a thermal camera to see how hot individual components on a board are getting, abnormal hotspots indicate an issue. Find a hot capacitor?  Desolder it and throw a new one on, boom problem solved.

It's just a guessing game at this point. Unless you have spare parts just sitting around that you can swap in and out to test, other computers you can test the gpu on, etc. etc., it's going to be damn near impossible to figure out.

If you had a BSOD, I could have you enable logging, send me the minidump and I'd tell you exactly what was causing the crash.  Freezes, unfortunately, don't do that.

I downloaded and am now running OCCT, see what it says.. I have it doing a stability test on CPU, GPU and VRAM.

Just played ACE and Zombies for about 45 minutes and no problems except getting slaughtered in 3 minutes playing Zombies..I used to be a really good FPS player

Best of luck!  Hopefully it is just the game having corrupted files, or maybe a cable not working properly.
