Life is tough, it's even tougher if you're stupid.
Taking a 550 ton crane boom from Vaughn, NM to Liebherr in Houston to get repaired. They routed me right through San Antonio I-10/-I-410/I-10 at 10" 2" wide, 103' long and 190,000 lbs, and it was pouring down rain  Tomorrow I get to tackle Houston and see if I can in and back out alive  I have to talk to my permit lady about getting me an outbound route that doesn't go though right through the heart of every major city.

Well, I survived Houston, got unloaded and now heading back to Wyoming with my empty Highway Max. Upper 90s and the crazy humidity damn near did me in. There's a reason I don't own a house in Gulfport, MS anymore. ETA: F'ing Texas and their routing, it's probably going to take two days to get to the OK border. Two full pages of directions, the overweight/over size office had decided to give me a tour of every Farm to Market road between the I-45 and Amarillo. I've hauled super loads with better routing than this. |

Attached File Attached File Our fancy TPMS tells us we have a flat but doesn't send us a notification. A hollow bolt of some sort punctured the tire right in the center of the tread at about 10 o'clock and the Halo inflators couldn't keep up with the air loss. It's a good thing I decided to kick the tires and take a leak at MM5- the MM13 I-35 NB Oklahoma chicken coop was open and aggressively protecting and serving as usual and even though I almost always get the go-ahead from PrePass they have those overheating tire sensors. Attached File Oh well, I made three hours of downtime pay, which is more than enough to buy me some BBQ and beer at the restaurant across the street from my hotel. |
310,000 lbs gear box for a concrete plant on a trailer rated for 350,000 lbs (on level ground) I had to traverse an 12% hill  The trailer wasn't very happy about it. |

I went down to Seymour, TX this week to move a wind turbine blade from a storage yard out to a tower. Thursday morning on my way down, just as I crossed into Texas the AC quit in my truck. It was 98 degrees on Thursday and 96 degrees on Friday when we did the move. No pictures as I was too busy sweating, getting bit by red ants and stabbed by whatever those little prickly burr things are called. To add to the fun, one of my pilot cars broke down just as we were getting out on the highway. This is the 2nd time (and second truck) where I've had the AC quit me just as I get to Texas, I think Texas hates me. I'm now back in Wyoming where fortunately Fall is happening and it's much cooler. |

@PhuzzyGnu Nice sticker. Hadn't seen that one before. I used to deliver groceries to the City Market (King Soopers) there in Granby. Colorado highway 40 can be a fun drive in the winter. I really enjoyed my time working in that area. Got to see a ton of the smaller towns in Colorado, and drive in conditions that most guys would be terrified of. Got so I had some regular hiding spots all over Colorado to spend the night. One spot over by Montrose was a favorite - I’d finish up my route, and then go park. Waking up and overlooking a ravine out in the middle of nowhere was awesome.  |

Moved a couple of transformers west of Canon City, CO on Wednesday after being delayed by the big snow storm not very big ones this time, about 150,000 lbs

Two day drive hauling an empty blade trailer down to Jacksboro, TX from WY to move a wind turbine 8 miles from their O&M yard out to a tower. Dropped my blade trailer off in Seymour, TX and now get to bobtail back to WY. There's certainly worse ways to make a living    |

We're building a "thing" in a place I can't name, moving pre-fab modules about a 100 yards from the lay down yard to the build site. Really good hours and not hard work  |

When wind farms are built they put in nice wide radii (radiuses?) for the turns so were can move the big stuff in. Afterwards they take them all out so they don't have to pay the land owners, then they expect you to move the same type of big stuff in without the widened turns when you have to do maintenance on the turbines This is just one of the turns we got hung up on getting this blade to the tower, it took about 20 pull ups to get the trailer walked through the intersection.
