Being as you all are pretty experienced with this kind of stuff, I wanted to get your opinion. I'm about to dip my toes into the audiophile world. My living room is pretty small so sadly I can't go the vinyl route so high bitrate flac is my next option. My home theater is a Yamaha rx-v385 powering a full set of sony SS5s that I'm pretty happy in a theater with but using them I can recognize they wouldn't be the best choice for what I am going for with this project. I'm looking for a set of bookshelf speakers with decent bass response and good sound for $500ish. No subwoofer. They'll be paired with a Dayton HTA200 hybrid amp thats 100w RMS/260w max. The brain is a homebrew Volumio-powered Pi4 with Allo Boss DAC & power filter that I'm in the process of building now. I'm leaning towards the Klipsch 600m II but I wanted to ask you all before I got something that I would be better served by a choice I was unaware of. |

Klipsch r51pm or r40pm. The 51 are larger. Both have the ability of adding a sub if you choose. They also have a phono stage if you eventually get a turntable. |

Update: I ended up going with a set of Klipsch RB-81 IIs. Finally got my Pi jukebox player done (though I went with mOOde instead of Volumio) and hooked them up. I haven't bought the amp yet due to other expenses but for the time being I hooked up a little 20Wx2 Kinter K2020+ tripath amp I had laying around. Gotta say even at 20w it sounds outstanding, even before they are broken in. Those little tripath amps are a treat if you are lucky enough to find a real one, and the Audiophonics I--Sabre 9038 DAC board is nothing short of magical. Had to go with the Audiophonics because apparently Allo went tits up. Glad I did though. The 9038 DAC was practically plug and play.

I have an Astel & Kern sp2000t I use for portable use with custom westone iems as well as while sitting around with either my Meze Empyrean or Audeze lcd-2c. My computer has a schiit lyr 3 with multibit dac and I use my headphones.. I have early 50s tubes for the amp mostly. Attached File Attached File |

I hate wearing headphones due to some serious scarring on one ear but those Audeze headphones look really nice. The cable came with my Meze empyrean. It's a 4.4mm balanced cable with mil i already going i to the headphones.. The cable is very comfortable and the headphones sound great.. The meze empyrean sound like the audeze but on steroids. They are also 4x more expensive than the lcd-2c. |
