Wanting to "build" a mini PC running an AMD 7840HS / 780m graphics. They mostly come with 1Tb M.2 drives. MOST come with 32Gb of ram. Question is, is it worth the premium for 5600Mhz over 4800Mhz ram? |

To answer the question: If you're doing Batocera just for retro stuff, you don't really need a stupidly powerful machine at all. Ram speed is a moot point. 4800 is plenty of speed for any retro gaming you may do on the rig, remember RAM speed only helps the CPU process information faster. Retro gaming, even up to PS3 titles, will not benefit from minute speed differentials. A PS3 had 256mb of DDR3 at 650 Mhz. Does that mean faster speeds won't help? Nope, it will help, you just won't notice it. At 1080p, on modern CPU bound games, we're talking 1% FPS. |

Of course. I have an aging RasPi in a 1Up arcade machine that I really really need to replace with a PC and Batocera. I just regret choosing the pi, it's really not cut out to be an arcade machine, sorry to the pi enthusiasts. |

Just updating this: I didn't need an HDMI booster. I needed to set my PCs output resolution correctly. To correctly get the bezels to display, resolution needs to be correct there too. I cannot for the life of me get my Ti-994a roms to run. I'd make a $50 donation to Batocera to get them to work! Batocera is awesome. OP I built my retro on a HP EliteDesk 705 G4 with a 2400g that I dropped a RX560 into it. 16gig DDR4 SO-DIMM ram. With Xbox wireless controller. I also have it networked so if I want to add games or movies to Kodi, I plug in the ethernet cable to it and can see it from my desktop PC> It's running smooth. Still some quarks I run into now and again. Like RDR2 running like crap on Xbox360... Also added two fans just to help move air as it's mounted behind my TV Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Retro doesn't take much to run at all consul depending. The kids absolutely love the old school stuff! |

Update: I built a few more control panels: Attached File Batocera is running AWESOME. PSP, PS1, PS2, xbox, NES, SNES, GameCube, N64, Sega sg-1000, master system, 32x, Saturn, Genesis, Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, and Ti99-4a. My resolution problem was from the 1 in, 8 out HDMI switch. It only ran at 30Hz. |
