My friend's sister won the town pageant 3 years in a row. 82, 83, 84.

She was 5'3 and 110.

We went to a carnival where some guy guessed weight. She got offended he guessed 115.

Things sure have changed.

A 5'3" woman should be between 105 and 120lbs depending on how big her tits and ass are. Hell, my first wife was 5'2" and at her heaviest was 128lbs, and that was in her 8th month of pregnancy. Normally she was about 110lbs. She wasn't a frail looking girl, she had been a gymnast, and had a gymnast's body, ample ass, rounded and firm, and B cups.

I wear a 30 or 32 waist (varies between the type of trouser and manufacturer).

It is virtually impossible to find on the shelves.  It is even difficult to find in the YOUTH section.

The standard on the shelf sizes START at 36 and rise from there.

If I shop clearance racks I have a better chance of finding something that will fit me.

Regarding the OP’s stat:

My wife is 5’-3” and currently weighs 116lbs.  She “needs” (her words) to get back to 112-113.  We’re an athletic couple tho.  Yesterday she walked, completed Pilates, played tennis and rode her bike to church group.  I rucked four miles with a 70# pack, lifted. and walked with her later.

People tell us “you’re too skinny”.  We are not.  We look healthy. I also get comments about my GORUCK activities. The people saying this are always “skinny fat” to “obese”.  I always reply “it’s 90% what you put in … not what you take out”.

TLDR: fat people are lazy.  When I was in high school (1980s) we had ONE fat person in my class.  Maybe a couple of people that would likely turn out fat too. Movies from the era, like Goonies, depicted one “fat kid” as a source of ridicule.  Using the movie example, “Chunk” looks SMALL by comparison to most of the blob kids I see today.

I watch people of all ages (18 to around 70) eating absolute garbage in our work cafe, daily.  Some of the women, likely 50+ overweight, complain about their inability to lose weight while shoveling greasy fried food and guzzling HFCS sodas.  They simultaneously make comments about the fresh, organic, food I’m snacking on (e.g. carrots, broccoli, tuna, maybe some Greek yogurt with a few blueberries tossed in, etc).

I do live in a town that was voted “most obese “ a few years ago.

This is getting to it.

Europeans eat a LOT more sugar than I normally do, I rarely eat bread at home, or dessert - most of my sugar comes from potatoes or alcohol.

Europeans eat a lot of bread, pastries, ice cream, potatoes, fruit, etc.

But not a lot of artificial sugar if at all, soda seems common, but in much smaller amounts, and FAR fewer additives than we're used to in all of the food and drinks.

I've probably gained a couple of pounds in Europe in the last week and a half, from trying a bunch of food (and beer ), being stuck in an office for a few days didn't help.

Great point on the youth.

Thus far, I've noticed FAR fewer overweight kids in Germany and Amsterdam, overweight adults are common, not to USA levels, and you see the very rare mayotanker (though sodatanker seems more appropriate as thin people have a lot of mayonnaise with their fries) on occasion.

The average man"s height has increased but not by a lot, not nearly enough to account for the weight gain. And the change in height happened decades ago, yet weight continues to climb.

Yea I was wrong 5'7 in 1950 while 5'9 in 2025. Women's average height hasn't changed tho. So men's weight has followed change in height and stature over the years while women's hasnt, theyve just gotten heavier. Going to assume if average height has increased 2" since the 50s, there are a lot more 6' + men now, which again, weight and stature follow height gain. Women don't have that excuse.

Let's go one step further and talk about self-reported height.  It's not a normal distribution, but rather, it's bimodal in the range of 5'8" and 5'10".  Men in the US skew their height to 5'10" when it's almost certainly more like 5'9".  I don't know what the metric equivalence is, if there is one.

I'm sure the same holds for self-reported weights.

I went to Rutgers in the 1980s and it was literally like going to college at the Playboy Mansion.

If a girl was slender and athletic, that was the AVERAGE.

If a girl was slender and athletic and had D cups, THEN there would be a lot of comment.

WE USED TO EAT BASICALLY WHATEVER WE WANTED.  THEY SERVED FRENCH FRIES WITH YELLOW MELTED CHEESE ON THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY.

And I had the abs of a greek god.

My parents knew absolutely nothing about diet or exercise, and they looked like movie stars.

Google "1980s yearbook" and look at the skinny people.

I recently took my daughter to a Penn State branch campus, and the fatness of the students was shocking and depressing.

SOMETHING HUGELY WEIRD HAS HAPPENED TO THE USA FOOD SUPPLY.  THIS CANNOT POSSIBLY JUST BE A COINCIDENCE.  The average woman should eat no more than 25g of sugar per day, and the average woman in the USA is eating 75g of ADDED sugar per day.
