Had a handful of students, who are student council members, stop by this afternoon. They all wanted to know what we were doing next and I got to walk them through what we were thinking. They seem to love the idea, and i was pleasantly surprised to hear them get really excited about the jump gate and stargate. We discussed the infinity mirror and lights, and they seemed to love the challenge. Anyway, its nice to have such excited and positive kids come by today. Makes me more confident in what we are planning. I had to chase them out of the room, well past when we could go home today. They wanted to hang out and talk about the project.

Cut a 3x3' hole in the floor, make the lunar surface and Neil's footprint. Should be relatively simple for some of the younger students, rather inconspicuous in the grand scheme of your projects, but yet profound because visitors can actually put their foot next to his foot and interact with the display. Only hard part is gonna be getting the principal to sign off you messing up his floor. |

Would love to do our mannequin in a space suit, on a rolling platform, like last year. That would give us a spot for it, without ruining the floor. |

The ESP32 is a lot like Arduino but it's also got a lot more complexity and fewer I/O ports so you would still be using Arduino and The esp-32 which is a lot faster and has built in WiFi and dual cores so super speedy for enough horsepower to run video displays made from huge LED arrays of "NeoPixel" serial arrayes. People have done 30 foot walls with those and ESP32s but it gets extremely expensive to do videos in odd aspect ratios ratio (like round). You can also do wireless control with XBee or other low power data communication setups for under $10 This would allow you to have sensing then remote control over RF so that all you'd need to run to the various displays would be just a power cord and all the updates and controls are just commands over RF. Well, until you get to video where it needs to be running near the video input as it's 1 or 2 GHz data shift rate to make the video at 30 frames per second. |

We had to modify one last year to get one that short and small. Currently, I have a 6'2" naked mannequin just standing in the way in the supply closet. Its a little disturbing.

Update 8/25 - oh good, my links from imgr are not going well.  Today was the 1st, full day for students. Thursday and Friday were super short days, with only 20min classes. I had tables set up with parts of the project explained, and paper for them to brainstorm on.   The students are pretty enthusiastic sonfar and the discussions have been fun. We put up paper so they could draw out what we might want out Lunar surface. We played around with this, but ended up deciding to do the same with the paper down.   Students scoured the internet for STL files for all of the spacecraft. We will try to print some models for us to use as references.  Playing around with how we might start building these with basic framework.  These guys were using paper cut to 6 and 8ft to see how it would look as a tube for our jump gate. We looked on Amazon for 4x8 sheets of 1/8" Lexan.  These guys were looking at making the Apollo 13 module at 1/6th scale, and figuring out how big that would be.  |
